Going into the draft this year one of the players i watched in college football was lamar miller. He reminded me of a prime clinton portis. I saw alot of draft boards at nfl.com before the draft and almost every draft board had him as the 3rd best Running back in this class, some even had him 2nd behind richardson. I thought he was a shoe in to be a first round pick, i really did. Going into this draft i wanted miami to take a RB, most notably, richardson :), yes i wanted richardson but i knew we needed a quarterback and it wasnt going to happen, it was just a silly pipedream i had. The other option was lamar miller, i also thought there was no way he'd make it to us in the 2nd round. As the draft went on though, i could not believe he was still there in the 4th round, thats when i saw ireland make his move and trade up to grab him. Overjoyed would be an understatement, i cannot wait to see this kid pair up with reggie bush at the rb position, 2 home run threats, explosiveness, agile, lightining fast. Its about damn time miami finally took some chances in the draft, and i believe philbin had alot to do with these "new" decisions. Alot of people want to give all the credit to ireland, but when sparano was here, ireland was never taking these "chances"

Preseason cannot get here sooner enough, i am excited about seeing tannenhill-miller the most because i think they will have the biggest impact on this team.

Im not hating on you bro, but the first time anybody brought up Clintin Portis was yesterday. Were you really seeing Portis or are you saying that because someone else did?

I'm a canes fan and love both Portis and Miller. Having seen almost every canes game for the last 25 years, Miller is nowhere near the RB that Portis was. For years, Portis has been the best blocking RB in the NFL. Miller is a little faster but doesn't have the vision or running skills that Portis had in his prime. That being said, I hope miller becomes the Dolphins starter in the next year or 2.

Yesterday I compared him to Portis. Just remember what Portis has done in blocking zone schemes, we can only hope Miller can do the same. Couldn't agree more MF1..

I was pretty stoked too my friend. I and get goosebumps thinking of Reggie bush and Lamar miller in the back field at the same time, than go in motion. WOOT WOOT.

not at all, im not even on the forums all that much anymore so no to your question. I said clinton because of there styles, i think there somewhat similar, clinton was a homerun threat, elusive, agile, speester, strong, all the traits lamar has.

Lamar will be a force to be reckoned with on special teams

Being a UM fan, I compare him to Gore coming out of college. Unheralded. Similiar height/weight and average per carry. Similiar running style and speed. There are some similarities. Just my .02

Miller doesn't really remind me of anyone in particular all I know is that I don't remember the last time I saw a back that loses 0 speed when making cuts at that size

This....exactly this. Portis had Lamar Miller's speed and elusiveness with one of the most ferocious attitudes I've ever seen for a back his size. He hit absolutely everybody and initiated contact like a fullback. I love Miller, but he's nowhere near Portis' level coming out of college.

I think what people see in the two that are the same is, they were both home run hitters in college, if their OLine gave them an inch they would house it. Myself i thought Portis was a more elusiveness runner, better blocker and both were one cut runners in college, but Portis had the better all around game coming into the nfl.

They both went to the same college and Miller is really the only home run kind of back THE U has had since Portis....so lots of fans will pick up on that , and that's it.

Miller may only play a few years because of his shoulder, but he's going to blast the rock and house it until his shoulder gives all the way out.

As far as him being a hidden gem , he's really not.....people in Miami and hard core draftniks " like me" have known of this guy since he was in high school.

Smooth is the word that comes to mind when talking about Miller. He doesn't seem to waste a lot of movements when he's running. He makes cuts at full speed and makes just enough of a move to elude a tackler, but not so much where he's 'dancing' around and wasting blocks. And man, what a burst, if he sees a little daylight and gets his hips turned, he can be gone in a matter of a few steps. Incredible first step and top end speed. We lucked out.

no one saw anything in him but us, therefore, he is considered a hidden gem.
