Armstrong Wins Fourth Straight AP Male Athlete of the Year Honor
Dec 29, 3:47 AM (ET)

By JIM VERTUNO

[font=verdana,sans-serif]AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Lance Armstrong takes fewer bike rides these days. He even describes himself as out of shape since retiring after his seventh consecutive Tour de France victory in July.

But he remains unbeatable. Armstrong was honored Wednesday as The Associated Press Male Athlete of the Year for the fourth straight year. He is the only athlete to be selected by sports writers four times since the honor first was awarded in 1931.

Kudos Lance!!!

For so, so many reasons - well-deserved.

i got no problem with him winning the award, but at the end of the day he's still just riding a bike!

Looks like he won't win his fifth straight.

I didn't say I could do it! I said I got no problem with him winning. But Im not sure riding a bike makes you an athlete! That's all Im saying.

neither does running, dribbling a ball, taking a swim, or throwing a football...........but its the ENDURANCE, and the mental will to run 100 meters in 9.83 seconds or however many, dribbling the ball and making the clutch shot being defended, swimming across the English Channel, or throwing a football 65 yards with only inches for margin or error allowed to you, what makes a person an athlete is the ability to do things anyone else can do at a level that many can not, so i would argue that riding a bike especially the trial such as the Tour does make you an athlete.
