just a quick question, why is this guy not in the starting lineup yet? i know bell is playing great but he is better than jones, whats the deal it does not take that long to learn a new system at saftey

What I wonder about is why more people aren't asking that question. Everybody is all over McDougle, Lee, Gordon, and Thompson (rightfully so), but nobody seems to say much about Lance.

Last I heard I beleive Lance was slow in trying to pick up the play book.

from what i've heard lance hasn't shown the speed saban is looking for at the fs position, and is probably why the coaches have made refrences towards liking bell's speed and athleticism. it is also probably why shulters is listed on the depth chart at ss, though saban claims his scheme really doesn't have a typical fs and ss, just 2 safeties. i would imagine that lance would have to know the scheme as good or better than anyone to make up for being a step slower than what saban prefers at that position, and having missed all the offseason stuff is not up to speed on the scheme, so to speak lol. anyway i don't know anything about him being injured but that could definitely affect his range.

That's contrary to everything I've heard about Saban's defense.

2 safeties? That's interesting. Not a FS and a SS? At least things will look different this season.

Well, basically, he came in late, has had trouble picking up the system and Bell simply will not let go of it. In fact, I think I read on one of Badard's blogs that Saban even pulled Lance off to the side one day and was talking to him for quite awhile. I wouldn't be surprised if he was telling Lance to continue working hard but that he will not be in the starting lineup for now.

Given Bell's injury history and Tebuckey questionable play at times. Also, givne that the backups are Tillman and Bua, I wouldn't be surprised if Schulters is starting a couple weeks into the season, if not sooner.
