I get it, he has the chance at better financial security if he got a long term deal.
But still, you are still getting 16mil over one year. Not like the tag will pay you 1m.

What option does he have? Not sign it? Then not play? Then wait another year for FA? What if he gets tagged again?

The franchise tag is designed for the team, not the player.

However i have no doubt he will play under it if he can't get a long term deal. Landry made 3.5M for 4 years under his rookie contract. You think he'll pass on making more than 4x his lifetime earnings?

Both Von Miller and Le'Veon Bell threatened to sit out vs play under the tag. Von Miller signed a longterm contract and Bell may get tagged again.

Edit: actually now that i think of it, Landry may play chicken with the cap-strapped Dolphins. Team needs to sign or deal Landry otherwise the free agency market is lost. Landry may bank on the Phins dropping the tag to become unrestricted.

He is starting to get a bit worried about what the market values him at. Just last week he was apparently happy playing on the tag.
Bro I think a little bit of reality is setting in as far as what other teams are willing to pay him as well as his health.

I feel like this early Quinn announcement hurt our leverage a little with Landry. Teams prob know we have to cut him outright to get under the cap. If Tbum can magically trade the branch or kiko contract to another team I would be ecstatic.

I also read more and more teams are dropping out of the Landry interest (bears and panthers are out supposedly).

Salguero said Miami has stated they aren’t signing him long-term. This year is it so get him out.

I know I could certainly take care of my next 3 generations of family for the franchise tag amount haha

Taxes, Agent, CPA Costs, etc....it goes away quickly.

But even so, I agree that $5-8m would be plenty for taking care of the family. But expectations and standards get raised once these kids get drafted. If he isn't willing to play 1 year for $16m then he's got some serious fear running thru his veins about getting injured.

More teams that go out may not be better for us but it's certainly not better for him. As a previous poster said I think he's going to realize if he hasn't already that his value is nowhere near 16 million a year
