Rookie Jarvis Landry has started the last two games at wide receiver, and now the second-round pick from LSU is officially listed as a starter on the depth chart.

Landry led the Dolphins with six receptions for 75 yards in his first NFL start against the Green Bay Packers in Week 6 and followed that by catching four passes for 46 yards in the 27-14 victory against the Chicago Bears on Sunday.

The Dolphins depth chart lists three wide receivers on the first-team offense, and Landry has replaced Brandon Gibson alongside Mike Wallace and Brian Hartline.

Head Coach Joe Philbin, who has said many times he has been impressed with Landry’s play speed, said the move was not a reflection on Gibson.

“I like Brandon,” Philbin said. “If I’m not mistaken, before he was injured a year ago, on third down he was one of the best receivers in the National Football League. His conversion rate was outstanding. He’s a smart football player. He’s got good hands. It’s not really necessarily an indictment of Brandon, and Brandon I know is going to contribute here this season. I’m confident he will.”

Despite a 4.77 40 time, Jarvis Landry leads NFL in kickoff return avg (31.2) among KRs with 10+ returns. Also now #Dolphins go-to slot WR.

had to be done...landry is the starting slot wr of this team for the next decade barring injury...gonna be a pleasure to watch work on sundays

Now that's great to hear! Certainly great to hear in regard to Landry and how it looks like we've finally drafted a skill player high who's going to pay off.

Love hearing the part about Gibson and how Philbin feels about him. He really needs to communicate that to Gibson though so that he doesn't get down on himself and possibly give up.

BTW, how the hell did LSU not score more points with Landry and Beckham? These guys look like they're going to be NFL stars within 3 years.

I would guess that unless we bring in a bigger WR to replace Hartline next year (assuming he's a cap casualty) that we'll see Landry playing outside vs in the slot. He should be outstanding at either position but it would be nice to have a 6-3+ guy to start on one side and keep Landry in the slot.

After last Sunday don't you think 6'3+ is overrated? I'll stick with Hartline. Wallace, Landry, Gibson and I don't care about order. Package offenses

Just because the Bears WRs had a bad game doesn't meant that it's not a great idea to have a guy like that. Seeing Megatron and AJ and guys who can just out jump defenders for the ball is a huge physical advantage. We still don't have a player who we can say they're a physical mismatch in the end zone and we can just lob the ball up to them. That's a big missing part of what we could do inside the 10.

I was making a joke. Yes we all would like a Randy Moss/Megatron but I don't think it's needed as much anymore. The league is about systems now and if teams aren't on board with the best system play they don't win.

this wr core will still have a missing piece if landry is forced to start on the boundary in it...that's why when i hear lose hartline which i fully agree with but replace him with landry i'm like that's not the correct fit...you don't want that kind of slow top end speed playing against boundary corners who have great long speed and quick recovery acceleration and size...

you have a great piece in landry he's like a more physical but slower version of victor cruz for the giants...physical like anquan boldin...if he had legit top end speed he'd be a perennial all pro...he's still gonna do plenty of damage and you will get all out effort on every snap...this kid doesnt take plays off...

Oh whoops I missed the sarcasm, which means it must have been hidden well cause I'm a sarcastic SOB lol. I just assumed you meant that maybe they are overrated after Grimes and Finnegan shut down the Bears tall guys.

I agree that Landry isn't the ideal guy on the outside. Just saying we'll have to invest a high draft pick in someone to replace Hartline on the outside if we keep Landry inside. And we might have too big of needs at LB and CB to go WR in the 1st two rounds again. Not sure who will be available in FA who could fill that role.

You don't have to talk Landry up to me, I've been a huge fan of his since the draft. I think he's a star in the making, even if he doesn't have the size or top end speed of the elite guys.

Yeah, it was dry. When I think of WR cores that have been tough to handle I think of the SB winning Saints crew. Future HOFs...nah. All get open, run routes well, and do their unique thing- yep. Same with GB WR crews minus Driver and Jennings who might have been both good WRs and good WRs for the system. I think Landry is that. He is the right WR in the right system for HIM. This could be good. I don't think this means blow up the other WRs because we see they are fitting in nicely week by week too.

Yeah I like Landry a lot and I like Matthews a lot too. We've started to find a way to use Wallace to maximize him but he's not my ideal WR either. Even Gibson is a good fit in this offense. Hartline is a good guy but he's not the ideal fit for a starting WR.

I would love to have the problem of having guys like Evans and Jackson as our WRs though. Or AJ Green and Sanu.

I would love to see them give Matthews some run on the outside, I love his physicality. He breaks tackles unlike Brian.

He and Landry both play the position like tanks. I wish we'd give him more snaps. Not that I wish for an injury to Hartline but I really wish we'd see more of Landry and Matthews out there together.

I'm amazed he has been so good on kickoff returns.
