I like Landry and he is a VG slot receiver but, not a "great" player."

Last year, he caught 84 passes for a 9.0 avg and 5 TD's
This year, 63 passes for a 10.3 avg and 3 TD's

In 2011, D Bess caught 51 for a 10.5 avg and 3 TD's with M Moore the primary QB'
In 2012, 61 for a 12.8 avg and 1 TD with a rookie QB.

I know that many draft starved fans want someone to believe in as do I but, Landry is not great. Same is true of James, who many fail to see how he has really played. We are still searching for that "great" pick" and now there has to be doubts that Parker will be the one. JMO

So, 84 catches as a rookie vs. 51 for Bess is his fourth year.
63 in 10 games so far this year vs. 61 for Bess in his 13 game 2012 season.

How are Landry's numbers not much better?

Actually, Bess' best year was 2010, which you didn't cite. And Bess actually was good for us for a few years.

Agree on Parker - unproven, that's all.

Wasn't the offense in general better in most categories back then?

Landry is not great?

Is this a serious post?

This is his 3rd year.

How did Victor Cruise look in his 3rd year, or Jerry Rice for that matter...

This is silly. Landry is a borderline Pro Bowl player. Bess never broke a tackle or caught a pass downfield. I can't believe I'm even replying.

you made this thread to compare Landry to Bess and then make clear the distinction that he's a very good player, but not a great one?

ok thanks.

Bess was awesome, but pretty one-dimensional. He could catch the 7-8 yard pass and then he was likely going down right away.
His kick returns were very unproductive. I dont remember his average or whatever, but I just remember him doing what my friends and I called the "Besscent", catch it and run a backwards crescent across the field before picking up 3 yards.

Landry is a much better player, has YAC ability and usually great hands. Tannehill does not always throw a good ball, so I dont blame him for all of his drops.

Landry is still on pace to break the Dolphins reception record. Landry's production this year may very well come close to the combined production of Bess' in '11 and '12.

Comparing Landry to Jerry Rice? I want some of what you are drinking, JK/LOL

I actually am not on the Jarvis Landry hype train like some others here are. He does not have great hands by any mean. He makes some spectacular ones, but drops many easy ones.

However comparing him to Bess is insane. Landry has 10x the gamebreaking ability Bess ever had.

And yet he is our second best WR this year behind Matthews. Point is that Phans are looking for someone, anyone to believe in coming out of the draft. While a VG pick, not a great one. many see him as such. No one points to a bad drop and a dumb return last week as they want to believe. Many see James as a VG OT but, he has not proven to be anything more than below average. I understand looking for great picks from our team but, these were only good on Landry and questionable on James.
