Okay, I'm looking to get a laptop. I don't want to go nuts, I really just need it because I'm taking online courses along with going to school to get out faster.

I'm taking online summer courses, but still want to go away.

So I really don't want to go nuts and spend a ton of money on one. Looking around $800 or less.

Okay computer guys and girls, lead me to the right one!

Greg

I just got a Toshiba at Comp USA 17" screen Dual Core processor 1 gig of ram and 120 gig hard drive and bunch of other junk for 759.00 after rebate.

Okay, I don't know much about the guts, but this is what I ordered. I have security and Microsoft office that I can add. Tell me how I screwed up?

Looks pretty nice Greg,
Duo T2350 (1.86) should be pretty fast. Especially with the 533 Front side bus.

Not sure about Vista yet. I know 3 people that have loaded and just as quickly unloaded it. Dont know personally though, and I hated XP at first, and now I wonder how I got along without it...

What did you say you gave for that? Looks like a pretty "Robust" setup

It was under 800. I upgraded a few things.

Muck was saying he like vista

The only thing I noticed was Microsoft Works (Which is crap) but you stated you have office, so that doesnt matter

Oh yeah, do you HAVE to use AOL, or can you unload that immediately:evil:

I have verizon fios and use MSN thru IE7 (I don't like firefox!)

That looks like a decent machine, but it is a Dell though ;) 2MB L2 cache is nice, and that is a good processor, I personally think you need more RAM especially for running VISTA but it looks like you have 2 512MB DIMMs, so you would have to remove one. The 950 GMA chipset is good and supports AERO.

I personally have had real good luck with Vista and prefer it to XP. Have fun with it, I love brand new toys :)

Definately NOT!

As far as I'm concerned there is a little alien inside each of those machines, think M.I.B. and "the little dude inside the big dude's head"; and they are all waving little wands and uttering magical incantations. Doubt me? Wasn't what was written above a magical incantation?

Translation:

Good machine, shame it is a Dell (I am an HP Partner) and I think you need more memory than 1GB. However as you have 2 512MB DIMMs to give your system 1GB of RAM, you will have to remove one to add an actual 1 GB stick to give yourself 1.5GB RAM (memory).

As it looks like your machine doesn't support dual channel memory then you don't need to install identical modules. So the one above will work as an upgrade, if and when you want to do it. Just remember you can't have too much memory.
