Laron Landry makes the most sense for our team right now. Safety is our weakest position, and in this defense, it is the most important position. Jason Allen will be up to speed next year, and adding Landry would give the defense an instant fit from day one. Landry already know's Saban't techniques and would probably take less time than any other new player in learning the playbook.

While there are other positions to address, here is an explanation as to why we go in a different direction:

1. I think the offensive line will be rebuilt with a combination of a free agents, the healthy return of players (McKinney, Toledo, James), and drafted talent.

2. I believe Culpepper will rebound and play very well behind a rebuilt line. I don't see us taking a QB in the first round. Maybe the second or third depending on how the draft plays out.

3. I think the conversion to more of a 3-4 defense will be beneficial to unearthing talent. I believe Capers, Saban, and Mueller will be able to find sleeper prospects for hybrid linebacker/defensive ends throughout the draft to add some much needed youth to the front seven. Fred Evans and Rodrique Wright will add the youth needed on the interior line.

4. The cornerback position isn't as bad as most people think. A healthy Travis Daniels, plus another season for Goodman and Will Allen will make this unit a strength next year. Depth needs to be added in the draft.

5. The receiving corp could use another set of reliable hands, but I just don't see us spending a top pick on Calvin Johnson. I think Chambers gets one more year to prove himself, and I think McMichael gets one more year to develop some consistency. I could see a scenario where potential replacements are drafted--not gamebreakers, but sure-handed receivers.

landry makes the LEAST amount of sense.

i disagree, how does he make the least amount of sense. we need a safety, there are not many free agent safetys worthy of top dollar because they all get resigned. safety is a valuable position in the nfl and you need a good one if u want to have a strong defense. obviouslly we wouldnt take him with our current first round pick. we would need to trade down and stockpile more picks which we can rebuild this team off of and then address our o line issue in free agency. this team is not far from being good. if the steeler can win the superbowl and then fall to a two win team currently then this affirms that this is not the worst offseason ever like so many of you have been spittin for a long time

While I don't think he'd be the worst option, I don't really think he's the best either. Especially if we're drafting top 3-5.

landry makes the LEAST amount of sense.

Can you explain why you think Landry makes the least amount of sense? I'm not saying we make a reach pick by drafting Landry in the top 3, but why do you think he would be a bad fit?

because we don't need one..We have other needs to address in the draft..Plus we wouldn't be following BPA policy if we picked him in top 5.

how about joe thomas, that would surely solidify the left tackle spot for years to come. Landry is good and all but no matter how good our defense is we wont win games if our offensive line doesnt block for c-pep or ronnie.

We definitely need a safety. Jason Allen will hopefully take over for Hill next year, but we are in dire need of an upgrade for Tillman. For some reason, Yeremiah Bell hasn't been able to unseat Tillman. I think Landry would be a much needed upgrade.

As far as top 5, you might be right. I definitely want the Dolphins to make a value pick, but I would argue that great players shouldn't automatically be downgraded because they play safety. There are only a few, but I would consider guys like Brian Dawkins, Sean Taylor, Troy Polamalu, and Mike Brown worthy of top 5 picks. If Landry can be that kind of difference maker for us, then he is definitely worthy of a top 5 pick.

im definatly not arguing that all of those safeties you just named arent worth a top 5 pick but you really think landry will be as good as them? I feel that we really need that jolt at offensive line and with the second or third round pick you can get Tom Zbikowski

tom zibikowski brandon meri weather theres two reason why we dont waste a high pick on a saftey. there will be other safteys to pick in the second and third round. we have to take a o line men if not cj

I think Landry will be special, but I do agree with your opinion that offensive line is a need. A top LT pick...or even multiple OL picks would make me very happy.

Landry was a mid first rounder last year and i've seen nothing from him this year to suggest he's all of a sudden worth top ten or even top 5 (where we'll be picking) also it makes no sense to have 2 first rounders Salaries at the safety position, Landry would not be a smart pick in any way shape or form
