DAVIE — For years, Laremy Tunsil has been their rock. Whatever the situation, whatever the odds, he stared down the challenge across the line, then pushed past it.

Now, the roles are reversed. Laremy Tunsil’s coaches and friends where he grew up in Lake City and where he went to college in Oxford, Mississippi, saw that video, just like we all did, and were puzzled by it. Just unlike we all are.

What they can’t figure out is who was that guy under the gas mask, with the bong? It’s not the Laremy Tunsil they know. They’re not running from the facts — they agree he made a mistake — but as they text him, as they talk to him, they plan to tell him the same thing: Stare down this challenge, then push past it.

“The same thing a father would tell his child,” Brian Allen, his head coach at Columbia High and a former NFL player, said he plans to tell Tunsil, the Dolphins’ No. 1 draft pick. “The same thing an older brother would tell a younger brother. You have to be firm but at the same time, you’re talking about a 21-, 22-year-old kid. Mistakes were made. That’s not what defines you. What defines you is how you respond from the mistake.

As a fan I moved on past it the night of the draft. He is a tough kid and all of this will define his career with the Dolphins.

From a physical perspective everything I've read is off the charts in terms of his footwork, ability to slide in pass protection. I believe he did 35 reps on the bench press in the combine as well (can someone verify).
I heard a former O-lineman on NFL network say he's the best LT prospect to come out in the last 10 yrs. He's the whole package.
If so, then he should win the starting job a LT and relegate Albert to his college position at G.
Hopefully this draft night embarrassment will motivate him even further and result in a pro bowl berth. Richmond Webb and Jake Long both made pro bowl their rookie years and Tunsil is a more complete player than both of them.

Well, they didn't draft him to be a brain surgeon, so I'm not overly concerned about it. Just keep him the **** away from Pouncey off the field.

Dude - In case it isn't obvious to some, Mike Pouncey has worked hard over the past 18 months to become a good role model off the field. He is also the established leader of the O-line in the locker room. While Mike and his brother made obvious errors in the past by publicly displaying their loyalty to former teammate Aaron Hernandez, he has learned from this incident and tries very hard to be a good role model with his extensive work in the community. Make no mistake, Mike Pouncey is a leader of our team and he reached out to Tunsil to welcome him as a Miami Dolphin.

 sure thing. You're basing that on what, exactly? Let's just hope that welcome didn't come with a gift basket.

Every Summer Mike and Maurkice Pouncey host a weekend of activities in their hometown, Lakeland, FL. Hundreds of kids participate and it is acknowledged as a terrific event in the community. The Pouncey boys are generous in their time and instilling their learnings as role models. They delight in giving back to others. The videos of the event are on the internet and I don't think that it is faked for the cameras.
Gonzo - you may dismiss this as nothing but I get the impression that Mike Pouncey has grown up and he takes his role as a team leader and work within the community, seriously. Time will tell.

I don't get the constant attacks on Pouncey by some here. Besides some misjudgment he has done nothing to deserve the label you guys place on him.

Really?

Link?

to the experts, what was Miami supposed to do? trade up and lose more picks as the corners were coming off the board? or take a chance on a player, that before the trades of the top two picks, was going 1-2 in the draft? At what pick would Tunsil have been a good pick? What team? Cowboys in second round? can you imagine that media coverage?

I get the same impression...in the end, people are going to have a negative feeling towards someone based on past experience...as long as those opinions are just that...opinions then I have no problem with the actual person. Since he signed that contract with the Phins (the newest deal) I haven't noticed anything negative...

I worked with the Pouncey boys at a few football camps while they were still at Lakeland and they both came across as polite...granted this was in 06/07 and they were still "kids".

Pouncey gets a bad rap for his "free hernadez" hat. That was a dumbass mistake, but that was 3 years ago.

I never said they weren't fantastic at maintaining an appearance. Hell, even Hernandez was able to while literally getting away with murder.

Golly, what a guy!

In the end, I'm a fan of the team, not the individual players. These aren't my role models and they sure as **** aren't my kids' role models. As long as they do their jobs and put down the coke long enough to stay healthy (Pouncey, broseph, you're slippin'!), I generally don't care what they do on their time, though I'd prefer they maybe not run guns for their gangster buddies, but I digress. Tunsil clearly doesn't have the brains to get away with stuff like that, so if he gets an invite to a potluck at Pouncey's place one weekend, maybe he should call a lady over to his place and Netflix and chill instead. :idk:

Pouncey Brothers Say They've Learned From Their Mistakes

The Pouncey twins are NFL stars — Pro Bowl offensive lineman with $40-plus million contracts — but the process of becoming role models to Lakeland's youth has required some personal growth.

"We made some mistakes in the past and we learned from them," said Maurkice Pouncey, who plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers. "I'm glad they happened because you always got to learn in life. We were young … then, but we're grown up and trying to be the positive role models — something for these kids back in Lakeland to look up to — and it means a lot to us.

"Anytime we did get in trouble in the past, it hit us in the heart. We learned the hard way, but now that we're able to give back every single year, it's a blessing."

Their camp on Saturday was one of four events over the course of what they called "Pouncey Weekend." With their foundation, which was founded in Mike's rookie year with the Miami Dolphins in 2011, the twins are able to come back to Lakeland for a weekend to celebrate the community each summer.

"It's definitely special to us," Mike Pouncey said. "We grew up in the same streets as these kids, and when we come home, we look at all of these kids like they're family to us. Lakeland's not so big, so we really know a lot of people that live here, and they've been so supportive of us over our careers that it's the least that we can do is come back and give back to the kids in this community."

Sorry, didn't mean to say something meanie about the team or a player on it. Again, I generally don't care what they do off the field, so long as it doesn't affect their jobs on it. Same goes for Tunsil. There are exceptions, of course. If we signed Greg Hardy, for example, though I'm sure I'd hear about all the charity **** he's doing and how he's now a good guy as soon as he signed.
