I think part of the reason we were throwing so many short passes with AJ was to keep him from trying to force the ball. Throwing high percentage passes and moving the ball gave him a chance to rebuild his confidence, and I think it showed in the way he threw the ball and the presence he showed in the pocket that has usually been his glaring weakness. AJ showed last year that when he is more conservative with the ball and limits his mistakes, he is capable of keeping us in the game and making the big throws that win the game. The Patriots games and Browns games were both mistake free, and it showed that no matter who you are playing, if your defense shows up and your team takes care of the ball, you have a chance to win the game.

Some people here say that AJ will never be a great QB. They might be right, he may never throw for 30 Tds or go to the pro bowl. But I would take consisten play over the desperate to make the big play Frerotte. Frerotte's passing reminded me of games I've played in Madden where I just threw deep all the time. It works in Madden, but it can lead to some pretty awful games in real life. Maybe AJ won't make the big plays all the time, but if he learns to limit his mistakes, our passrush and Linebackers are good enough to keep us in the game this year, barring too many key injuries.

Building block?!

AS soon as AJ gets full reign on the 1st string offense he will fail. It's just history repeating itself.

He played much better in his one start, although it was brief, than Frerotte has. I didn't see AJ making horrible decisions with the ball like I have with Frerotte. AJ may fail, but I would rather take a chance on him than Frerotte, who is failing miserably so far and is a career backup.

That's BS and you know it. You seem to forget the Feeley's deer-in-the-headlights look from last week. Overall, Gus has shown much more ability in the preseason (than Feeley has). Gus made alot of passes last night that should have been caught. There was no excuse for those balls being dropped.....and you can't blame Gus for receivers outright dropping the ball.

Yeah I'll give Frerotte credit for not looking bad as he throws the ball 5 yards from where it needs to be on every play. Frerotte's a veteran and is not getting frustrated, but that doesn't mean he hasn't been horrible. And AJ did a 360 tonight in terms of being comfotable, and that was actually the purpose of my post. And just remember, AJ had more than one potential scoring drive derailed by a stupid turnover that wasn't his fault. I think the fact that Gus has had 1 effective drive the entire preseason is telling.

Yup 1 drive... people on the GusBus are holdin on to one good drive against 2Team defense that was called for numerous penaltys and a lucky circus catch....

I mean, what would they have to hold on to?

if anything, it was actually a building block for Gus. Now, he knows what he's up against with a **** o-line against an extrememely agressive defense. He now knows when he has to get rid of the ball, and also that he'll have to practice throwing on the run....a lot.

Feeley didnt show anything spectacular last night. Gus wouldn't completed those same type of balls, but instead, he took shots downfield. Whether its Feeley, Manning, or Marino, completing 16 balls for less than 100 yards is not impressive anyway that you look at it.

I understand that you want Feeley to start, but as of right now, he still has not earned it for the regular season. The competition will go on for another week, and we'll probably know by Wednesday what Saban has decided to do.

Well, it's nice that AJ could complete 5 and 10 yard dunks against the 2nd string defense. By all means, give him the starting job.

If the defense had been in Feeley's face as they were in Gus', AJ would have grabbed a hamstring or his arm (or some other body part), whined, and limped over to the sideline in his true drama queen fashion. Knock Gus' play all you want, but Feeley wasn't getting knocked around like Frerotte was last night. If he had been, you could count on a couple of picks from AJ to add to all of those fumbles.

Ooooh, big mistake. Shouldn't have gone there. Feeley had a lot of passes over the preseason that should have been caught, DT anyone? Well the fact of the matter is, this happens to all QB's. It's a dumb excuse that everyone knows that happens. So just get over that fact.

you're making a case for 1 pass, when Gus had how many dropped in 1 game?

No, I won't get over the fact. It's the QB's job to deliver the ball.....it's the receivers job to catch it. In his time here, Feeley has looked MUCH worse than Gus did last night....period. So, my assertion isn't a "big mistake" but rather it's the harsh truth. Too many dropped balls last night......not Gus' fault.

BUILDING BLOCKS?? The only block around AJ is the crammed into his helmet.

Those of you complaining about the drops are failing to see that half of them were poorly thrown balls behind the reciever. DT's drop was for a big completion, was a beautifully thrown ball, and went right through his hands.

Dudeman you are chronically miopic when it comes to a drop for one qb vs drop for the other you need to look at it objectively its nto like when gus has a wr drop a ball it si any different then a wr that drops one of aj's balls and dare I say anyone go back and look at the 3 of drives both these guys have had and see how many of these drives have ended in to's rather than punts!
