Last night was a building block for AJ

What I think is laughable is that most of the Guskateer's kept ranting on Feeley having 0 touch on the ball and had trouble with short passes..locking onto a reciever..not spreading it around. Last night..he hit mostly short passes..spread it around..made quick reads..and now you actually roast the guy for doing exactly what you said he had trouble doing before. Ive never heard so many talking from both sides of their mouths more than hear.

I guess people forgot to read the part of the post where I showed how that translated into wins for us. Gus tried to constantly hit the long ball, resulting in one big play and about 4 really crappy ones. If our short passing game is working well, it will open up shots for us downfield.

Well, it's nice that AJ could complete 5 and 10 yard dunks against the 2nd string defense. By all means, give him the starting job.

If the defense had been in Feeley's face as they were in Gus', AJ would have grabbed a hamstring or his arm (or some other body part), whined, and limped over to the sideline in his true drama queen fashion. Knock Gus' play all you want, but Feeley wasn't getting knocked around like Frerotte was last night. If he had been, you could count on a couple of picks from AJ to add to all of those fumbles.

But isn't this the same thing that happen to AJ in the Chicago game..and people said he sucked for not dealing with it well, why does Gus get a bye, when it's him from you guys...???

Or, as history has shown us in Feeley's case (as well as Jay's), our short passing game more often than not results in 6 the other way. You seem to forget that if you don't take shots down the field, the defense will only play the short pass.

Yeh..but most agree that Feeley throws by far the better deep ball. His short passes were his problem..which as evident..he has worked on and still we hear he sucks. You cant have it both ways.

When the defense begins playing for the short pass, that's when you break out with the long. Pittsburgh seemed to be defending the long pass, and Gas was throwing the long pass instead of taking what he could get. It's like me saying I'm only gonna date a supermodel. Eventually I may meet one, but I'm not gonna get any action in the meantime if I don't take what I can get.

AJ hasn't thrown a pic 6 for a while, and he hasn't shown himself prone to the mental errors that caused him to throw balls directly to a linebacker or worse, a d-lineman.

No, I won't get over the fact. It's the QB's job to deliver the ball.....it's the receivers job to catch it. In his time here, Feeley has looked MUCH worse than Gus did last night....period. So, my assertion isn't a "big mistake" but rather it's the harsh truth. Too many dropped balls last night......not Gus' fault.

Gus has looked horrible from the start. He has underthrown and overthrown receivers with a consistency that is frightening - especially if you're a receiver who is supposed to lay out for the catch. Gus' accuracy problems will put our recievers in the hospital. Maybe Feeley hasnt won the competition but it sure looks like Gus has lost it

Hmmmm, I don't recall his deep balls being that great either. Hell, so far, among the three vet QB's on our roster, the BEST deep ball thrown by ANY of them was the one from Sage on the first play of the Fins/Pats game last season......but everyone is conveniently choosing to overlook him.

That should be the case, but as I've discussed in other threads, the coaching staff has made it Gus's job to lose rather than AJ's, which is ridiculous because of the way AJ finished strong last year and is our incumbent. Gus should have had to clearly outplay AJ, but the staff wants AJ to clearly outplay Gus, meaning that if there is as much dissent in the staff as their is on this board, Gus the mediocre veteran will be starter come week one.

Oh, you are absolutely right.....let's just forget about his lame attempt to throw the ball away last week, only to have it interecepted at the sideline. Nope, no mental error or lack of arm strength there.

That was in the Ravens game, and it was a nice pass, in stride. I just have yet to be amazed by Sage this preseason, his throws don't have the juice that his supposed big arm should have. Feeley did make a lot of fine passes last year that were absolute darts. They weren't the type of throws that the Minnesota offense usually runs, but they were still impressive. When he wants to gun one in there to an open reciever in the end zone, he can do it.
