Anybody else agree?

As a loyal fan to one of the most winningest franchises in NFL history, last season blitzed me harder than the opposing defensive lines who seemingly ate us for Sunday lunch. We started to lose, and those losses turned into frustration; frustration turned into depression; depression turned into a quarry of confusion and pushing myself to the brink of questioning my validity within the spectrum of Miami Dolphins football.

But in hindsight, and you guys may or may not disagree, I find that last season was a blessing. I got to sit back and watch football through the eyes of your everyday perennial prozac-shooting Arizona Cardinals or Los Angeles Clippers fan. And it is not until now that I truely appreciate the worth of a strong coaching staff; It is not until now that I truely appreciate the worth of a running back, or an offensive line, or a run stopping defense.

Last season was painful, but true to the wordly quote, what doesn't kill you can only make you stronger.

What do you guys feel about last season in hindsight?

I agree:up:

Dude, interesting thread. If I understand you right, you got to sit back, chill and watch the games. You weren't on the edge of your seat, screaming, at times praying, for that crucial first down or D hold on a game deciding 3rd and 3.

Yes, I understand that. The last time I really felt that way was in 2003, when we were playing at the Pats and needed a win desperately and got shut out, like 10-0 I think the score was. We couldn't muster any points in a game that we needed badly. I think that might have been the last time you were on the edge of your seat also. What a year it was just for that. Crushing I think it was the Cowboys, the previous week on TDAY, our O looking like the Niners of the 80's, than getting shut out the following week in a must have game vs the Pats.

IM not sure, but I think thats how it went. We will know by october if we have any of those games coming up. It also makes you appreciate just getting into the playoffs, which we haven't done since 2001 and threw up another offensive dud vs the Ravens in our own building.

I hope we have some important games this season. If not? I don't have too high of an expectation this season, but I fully want this team in the Playoffs by 2007, no later.

That's like saying that enduring pain from a crippling disease is a good thing because it makes you appreciate all the days where you didn't have pain.

Last year sucked. It still sucks. Wayne should have axed Wanny and crew the year before. I was convinced he was gone after the MNF game against the Eagles. Instead we endured a year from hell. Almost totally self inflicted by Wayne for not pulling the trigger at the end of the year prior.

The blessing was that Wayne woke the heck up.

I became completly disgruntled two years ago when we dropped the home opener to the Texans. We were as a team, totally unprepard and it was a horrible loss to witness. The old drunk Texas fan sitting directly behind me did not make it any better. It was at that point that I quit buying stuff and monetarily supporting the Dolphins. I gave away my remaining four tickets and began sulking. When Ricky quit and we entered last season I took a "tough love" approach. I rooted for a loss every game until Wanny was gone. I actually see Mr. H. before every home game as he visits his new marina right next door in his chopper before each game. As I am always in Agua on those days we continued our "wave at each other" fest. I even made signs that said "hey Wayne, Dump Dave." Anyway, I am as hopeful as when Don replaced George sr. and am truly looking forward to the next few years. I watched the Patriots beat the Raiders the other night and I actually enjoyed watching them operate. I believe they are a preview of what is to come for us and I am eagerly awaiting !

it's never fun to go through but it makes you appreciate winning when you start winning again. As a jet fan I was used to losing for a long time so I appreciate the fact that we have been a good team for a long time even though we haven't won it all. As a UNC basketball fan I had never seen a non 20 win season or not finishing in the top 3 of the ACC so 2002 was strange going 8-20. it tests you as a fan, it was difficult to go through but it made last year all the more special knowing what 8-20 felt like so while it does suck going through it when you guys eventually win again(whether it's this year or 3 years from now) you'll appreciate it more.

Well, as fans, we are definitely spoiled and I want wins NOW...LOL...Having been around long enough to see George Myers play for the Fins, it's really hard to imagine another losing season...

Normally before a game I get worked up and then during the game I'm all tense til the game is over. Just ask my wife how I get when Miami loses. Last year after game 4 I was pretty much relaxed the rest of the season, no tenseness (word?), no anxiety, just well, calm. All in all it was kind of a nice feeling:) ... Oh and I NEVER:fire: want to feel that way AGAIN. Here's to butterflies and getting so ******off when the fins lose. WOO HOO GO FINS.

great post man. strong maturity there. i agree whole heartedly.

And to the guy in one of the above posts, don't put football on the level of a disease. Diseases kill people, not winning football games is just something we as fans don't like, but we get over it. do you see the difference?

I'm right there with you. I knew in my gut what was going to happen, so I didn't subscribe to the NFL ticket, just couldn't throw that much cash down the drain, and I KNEW that's what was happening. DW and co. should have been axed the previous year.

What few games I did see last year, I watched with a certain level of calmness, as I didn't really expect to see anything good. But I was depressed from the lack of anticipation and excitement we should always feel before the games. I missed it. But this year the NFL ticket is in my home and my butt will be firmly planted on the couch for each and every game. I don't fully anticipate the same 11 win season as in the past, but I expect to witness the hope and revitalization of this franchises future. Let the games begin.

I think that it was a blesssing aswell. If Ricky nevr retired, we would've won about 3 more games then we did last year. Wanny would still be here and our coaching staff would likely been the same as it was last year.

It was a nightmare that ended with good. We got a new coaching staff mixed up the roster a bit got some young guys in here on a good draft and I believe that took some of the pain away from last years season. If we still had Wanny right now I bet there would be a lot more negative threads about the Miami Dolphins rather then positive threads.

I see what you're saying. Hindsight is 20/20. Personally I want the games to matter again. It's no fun going to games in Ocotber that do not matter. Beating the Patriots in December on Monday night was nice but it would have been nicer had it been for the Division crown.

Whatever we suffered last year, was certainly worth it to get a fresh start with a new staff. Year by year, our talented up and coming squad was gradually regressing to the point where we were an aging team, in cap hell, with the 2nd worst record in football. Wanny needed to go.

I spent a lot of time watching the eagles last year since most of my friends are birds fans and towards the end of the season, the Dolphins would get bumped at the bar I go to since it only has 6 TV's. I still really enjoyed football, but it wasn't the same emotional experience. I was just going to the bar and having a good time. It was fun, but I'd like to be back to the gutwrenching Sundays soon. I care too much.
