I am beginning to realize how bad was our interior O-line was last year. We get rid of center S. Satelle for all intents & purposes was ok and we jettison our two starting guards last year that cant even make the roster this year. How bad was that line. Long was a rookie and Carey was playing Rt again.

I have to give it to Dan henning. He really did it with smoke and mirrors last year. The line this year has really been upgraded. After watching Donald Thomas in action last game i now realize why Bill Parcells said that Donald was a god send. (if i remember correctly) This guy has the potential to be an all pro.

If i was you guys i would make sure you secure Ronnie Brown as one of your fantasy backs this year as i think miami is going to run it down everyones throats this year. I can't wait. This is going to be fun!

:callme:

the phrase is for all intents & purposes not intensive purposes, bud. yeah, Parcells wants to run it down teams throats & Thomas is the key.

I think the fact that Satale, ND, and Alleman are gone should tell everyone something. "Well they were good enough to win the AFC East!" ----- Yeah. That's why they're all gone.

I think Ngata actually shot putted ND so hard he just landed in Cheifs camp.

It's funny how our interior OL help get us to the playoffs, and yet not good enough to be backups this year.. I thought their experience from last year would serve us well for depth this year....Murphy who couldn't buy a ticket to the game is now over taken them, weired, berger can't get off the bench for us or dallas, is now back, and Frye who couldn't beat them out last year for playing time is now over taken them too. So let me see, 3 ppl who haven't played a game over takes 2 who was our starters last year. Hmmm, I lover our starting group, but I have to wonder about our backups.. I think we have no more depth this year then we had last year..so here's to hoping our starters don't get hurt.. we've gutted our whole interior OL from last year..bookend tackles with hopefully 3 inside maulers.. And we need them this year for the competition we face.. They are the force that allows us to remain a viable force in each game.. If we still had last years interior, I'd really worry about our schedule, with all the additions on both sides of the ball, I think we've upgraded enough to hang with anyone..

No, our interior line did not help us to the playoffs. Extremely good play calling that removed focus from the interior line got us to the playoffs. The wildcat forces defenses to focus effort to the outside shoulder of the tackles. The defense was not able to consistently manhandle our interior because of split focus. Except for very talented defenses such as the Ravens.

As for backups, I just do not know. Murphy looks capable during the preseason, but all I know for sure is that he is better than ND and Alleman.

Losing our starting guards during the season hurt. Having Thomas go down in the first game hurt the inside running game all season, but was sustainable. When Smiley went down late in the season we started to see how ineffective Satele really was in our scheme. It's like Smiley was his security blanket or something. E.K. played well enough but when we added Alleman in the mix the whole unit suffered.

If the line can stay healthy we will be very good this year. If we lose 1 lineman we can probably handle that as well but more than 1 and I will be worried.

I think all this talk that "they weren't even good enough to make the team and were going to be cut" is a bunch of bullcrap. You look what we now have left, and I see 7 keepers...that's it.

Alleman and NDukwe were good enough to make the team, and IMO, they would have. Do you think that KC is going to trade for guys which aren't capable?

Does that mean they were "good." NO. It just means that WE ARE STILL VERY THIN ON THE LINE and that they were better than the scrubs we have left. Murphy is developing fine, but who else do you see as a backup that would have been better than NDukwe or Allemen? Frye...please...Gardner...he messed up on every play of one series...the rest are just hoping to make the practice squad.

IMO we will bring in some new guys, because what we have now won't cut it...

Yes GoonBoss you are right it should tell you something. It should tell you not be sold so fast on any player regardless of position.

Many people on this board had Samson as the teams future all pro center for years to come.

Fun what a year changes.

Done.

I will give you that. A trap blocking scheme is much more conducive to smaller fast interior linemen and pulling guards and centers usually hide a smaller lines weakness which is straight head blocking.

I agree, as long as that one lineman isn't named Jake Long or Vernon Carey

No, anyone that looks lost as frequently as he did will not. My fearless prediction that he will not be considered a starter ever again after he bombs his first year in Oakland.
