It’s 94 degrees and the 11th Miami Dolphins training camp practice is ending and Cameron Wake, sitting atop a tall football equipment trunk near the locker room entrance, is asked to ponder just how monotonous or repetitive these sessions can be.
“Well, with all due respect to everybody reading this, the normal 9-to-5 job that you can do for 11 years or 50 years, is very different than what we do every day,” Wake begins. “The reality of it is, most people don’t get to do it for 11 years. It’s a very small window, a very small opportunity. You only get so many swings at the ball here. Knock on wood. I’ve gotten probably more than most. But the reality is you have to cherish every day, because it’s so fleeting.”
