Happy Late Thanksgiving you guys! I just wanted to throw it back to this is pretty cool episode of ESPN's Jon Gruden QB Camp, from back in 2012 when our guy was coming out of A&M. It's crazy to see how mature and evolved this kid has gotten. Here's to good times as our QB continues to grow..:ffincali:

Notice how Gruden went at length over Tannehill's effectiveness out of the read option in college.

What took MIA so long to employ this weapon???

They were trying to develop him as a pocket passer. That's one area where I will credit Mike Sherman. He wanted Ryan running a pro style offense and throwing from the pocket so that he could develop his ability to feel, manage, and play from a traditional pocket offense. We're reaping the benefits of that now.

That said, we could have won a few more games our first two years if we had done what Seattle did and implemented more read option, more boots, and more rollouts. I think Russell Wilson's struggles from the pocket are more a function of his height and less a function of being moved around or carrying the football on a percentage of their offensive snaps.

Great video....I hadn't seen that before.

I LMAO when Gruden was giving him a hard time about the fight song at A&M.

Gruden "C'Mon man, not in the West Coast Offense" (Referring to Zone Read)
Tanne "Mike Sherman wasnt too fond of it either"

Well....yeah, we know. :lol2:

Edit: Holy crap how prophetic is this. Gruden basically has called what Tanne's strengths and problem areas would be.

That was nice to see again, thanks OP. I'd forgotten RT had demonstrated some ability with the read option in college. Also, those out-routes are long throws requiring great velocity, accuracy and instant decision making.

I don't know what's keeping him back with the deep throws now, but if he can do those out routes that well, the deep balls have to be well within his capabilities. Perhaps he's not used to floating his throws, as many deep balls require? Nevertheless, I think they'll be coming in the not too distant future. Once they do, I think he'll be one of the best with them, as he is with everything else.

One more thing. I find it intriguing that Gruden never brought up deep routes, nor any criticism of Tannehill's prospective ability to throw them. The point of the show is to measure and critique college top QB prospects for success as NFL QBs, correct? If the deep ball is so critical to an NFL QBs success in the NFL, why would
Gruden ignore it completely? :ponder:

not like newton or crapernick.
thill is all about getting better each day, love this kid!!!

Hard to believe Fins fans still bashing this kid. After the merry go round of a train wreck we have had since 2000, we are lucky to have this kid. No he's far from perfect and will still have some tough games where we scratch our head. But he's not even close to a finished product.

One thing I really like is he is a hard worker, a gym rat. Another is he is smart.

I remember talking to a friend of mine who played with Jake Locker at U of Washington. The word was he wasn't much of a film room guy and wasn't very smart. Locker survived for years on being a freak athlete who could do anything. But at the pro level, to be great, it takes the entire package.

I for one am so glad we have Tannehill and that the position is stabilized. We can build around him. And we are and will continue to. I surely have cursed him many times in past 2.5 seasons, but at the end of the day he's our glimmer of hope.

Disbelievers laughed at and scorned Columbus's contention that the earth was round. Although still way too premature, with too much left to prove, to declare Hoops as correct in his pronouncement that when the smoke clears, the 2 premier QBs of that draft and epic rivalry will involve Luck and Tannehill. As nutz as that appeared to many, that prediction's not looking anywheres so crazy now. .. and you can throw in the preceding QB draft also, for that matter.
