They do have us taking one of my favorite players in Shaq Thompson

The Phins appear to be back on track following the disastrous final year of former General Manager Jeff Ireland’s tenure. The new regime cleaned up the mess along the offensive line and now it is time to fix the mistakes that were made at linebacker. Shaq Thompson of Washington is a linebacker / safety hybrid who also saw extensive action at running back for the Huskies. Now that is a versatile athlete! Thompson may need just the right set of circumstances in terms of scheme and role to maximize his potential at the next level but his best fit will likely come as a weakside ‘backer in a 4-3 front. Think Thomas Davis without the durability concerns. Regardless of where he lines up, Thompson has proven to be a big-time playmaker with a nose for the ball. It will be interesting to see where a true ‘tweener like Thompson ultimately Shaq Thompson | Washington Huskies comes off the board but the tape is extremely impressive and absolutely screams first round talent. Clemson OLB Vic Beasley is a possible alternative, especially if Miami wanted to enhance their pass rush. There is room for upgrades in the secondary at both cornerback and safety as well. Finally, even though Lamar Miller enjoyed somewhat of a breakout season it still remains to be seen whether he can stay healthy over the long haul so you can’t help but wonder if the Dolphins would at least consider a stud runner like Wisconsin's Melvin Gordon.

I love Shaq, but I see him and Jenkins both as WLB's, and I don't have Shaq as the BPA at that pick, so I can't say I love it.

I absolutely love Shaq Thompson. His versatility could be huge for creative defensive coordinators. Thompson could easily move to safety in some sets without having to use substitutions. I think he could also match-up against tight ends in pass coverage. He should see most of his time at weak side linebacker, but he looks good enough at running back to help out there. I could envision him getting some carries in Miami's short-yardage offense.

All that said, with the emergence of Jenkins I think Miami goes in another direction. I think the team needs to get a playmaker on offense someone like Melvin Gordon, Todd Gurley, DaVante Parker or Devin Funchess. I'd look defense after that filling needs at linebacker, corner, safety and defensive tackle (would also sign a DT in free agency).

Didn't Connor cook say he was going back to Michigan state

Yesterday. The mock was done on the 13th. Too bad, because the more QBs taken ahead of us leaves more talent to choose from in other areas.

Shaq wouldn't be bad. I read the latest issue of SI and am really impressed with Melvin Gordon. He has a fantastic work ethic. He often gets up at 3 AM to go work out and he is very well liked on campus in Madison. If we were to take a RB in round one he would be right there...I just think we probably will not be looking at a RB that early.

I think our biggest needs are:

1. DT...could be losing Starks and already lost Solia. Need run stoppers.

2. LB...Shaq or Beasley...or Arizona's Scooby Wright.

3. WR...need more weapons besides Wallace, Landry and Hartline.

4. CB....injuries have killed us here. But even when healthy we need help here.

Outside backer is not our weakest area.....

Playmaker on offense.....impact DT....Stud safety.

We have plenty of outside guys.

Melvin Gordan.....Kevin White......Dorial Green-Beckham......they are my first round wishlist.
