I know everyone wants some big name free agents but They are not worth taking up or cap space. We are playing it smart because we are spreading the wealth to multiple positions not just one or 2. Like albert haynesworth he is taking up like 14million a year. I know he is good but spending 14million on 3 decent players is better than spending that much on 1 player. I dont care how good you are, 10-15 million is just to much on 1 player a year. Dont expect any big name players getting added to this team. Julius Peppers is a big name but he is not worth picks and money, they showed tape with peppers against the rookie tackle from denver and peppers did nothing against a rookie. not to mention the tackle got NO HELP!!! We got three people who know what they are doing.

Not that I don't agree with you... but for every tape of Peppers getting neutalised, there are 2-3 of him blowing past a tackle.

And though Clady was a rookie, he's already one of the best pass blocking left tackles in the game and will be a multi pro bowler.

Some free agents are worth getting the cheque book out for. We have to be sensible and make sure we're only supplementing the squad. We also have to have our price for a player and not exceed it. That's the FA key. The money Scott will get off the jets is unbelievable. I fully believe they could have got a similar calibre player on a rookie contract. It's not as if he's gonna be the last piece in their puzzle.

Carry on tri-fecta. You're doing a near floorless job.

In defense of Peppers, Ryan Clady pretty much owned everyone he faced.
I'm really not worried about not getting any big names. I mean, Jason Brown would've been nice but I pretty much ruled him out after Carey signed. The Fins already have the highest paid LT and RT in the league so doing the same at center seemed unlikely.
With that said, I will be unhappy if they don't bring in a veteran CB. Goodman was our best corner last season and losing him won't help an already very average group.

Haynesworth essentially's being paid on the basis of 1 good and 1 very good contract year. $1million/game (from what I read) is obscenely too high a price to pay for a single position, even a game-altering one like his. There's too much risk he comes in out of shape, unmotivated and underperforming, especially since $41mil is guaranteed. And that doesn't account for the possibility of him going down again with a season ending injury. Scott could be a game changer, and I'd have been more excited by him, but it's hard to say how dominating he'll be without playing along side the escapee from justice. I suspect he'll do well but it's still a crapshoot..and for $8million, he damn well better play lights out, not just well. I suspect it was a foregone conclusion based on a complicit agreement with Ryan that if the money was close, they'd reunite, and that would make his availability moot anyway. Would have liked to have Brown too, but not at a tackle's price tag. Aside from that, I'm not necessarily in agreement that we desparately need a center although we'll probably address that in the draft. Satelle was a bright light in our worst of times; he was healthy then. Let's see him perform recovered and bulked up since his athleticism has never been at question.

If we're looking at a closing window of opportunity, I guess you could justify mortgaging the present in terms of cap hell and trading of draft picks for a difference maker or two.. but based on age, experience and inspired managerial direction, we happen to be looking at a pretty bright light at the end of a reasonable length of tunnel; we don't need to crap money away and will be better off longer term for not doing so.

considering Bart Scott is being paid the same as Gibril Wilson and Yeremiah Bell put together, I'm not upset about missing out on him. also, if there is anyone that knows how to draft linebackers, it's Bill Parcells. I can't wait to see who he picks.

Well said sir !!!!

and meanwhile teams like the jets and patriots are adding talent while miami and its fanbase are living in denial.

we dont need to sign 10 f/a players but we do need to sign 3 or even 4 playmakers or else we will be cursed with 12 more years of 8-8 or worse.

this crap of signing third tier players works for teams that want to be average but not for superbowl teams.

all i want to see is improvement , but so far Miami is taking a wannylistic aproach which is why miami wont even finish 8-8 unless they can find some playmakers.:rotfl1:

I agree with u here.. look what the additions of joey porter and chad pennington did for us.. but right now we are the same team as we are last year (player wise).. i know we are better because they are now comfortable with each other and things, but still the jets are starting to look like a pro bowl roster without a qb.. we need to all hope and pray they do not get a qb, cuz if they do they will be dangerous.. without one they are no better than an 8-8 even with the talent they have.. and lets not forget about the pats.. the pats always work free agency like crazy by signing vets and they are good year in and year out no matter who gets hurt..

Now i know big tuna knows what he is doing, and I have trust in him, but i think sometimes he and the FO shy away for dishing out the big bucks simply because they want to be the team players will play for without signing huge contracts.. this is good but we still have obvious needs that need to be filled and could have been filled already...

the only player that i am really upset over is not signing jason brown.. i mean he was only 25 and he is a proven player.. no time wasting to see if a draft pick will develop.. if we had him i think we would have had the absolute best o-line in the league.. but right now we still have some work to do..

but whats done is done, and what isnt simply isnt.. so i have faith in you BP.. dont let us down..

Did the Dolphins go 11-5 last year and make the playoffs? Did the mighty Patriots or Jets (who spent a TON of money in FA in 2008)?

I somewhat agree about needing to get at least a few potential playmakers...but I completely disagree about the Wanny era comment. In the Wanny era, they'd bring in high priced FA's but all the wrong ones. Some who were either past their prime or not the top player at their position but rather the 3rd or 4th next best. I'm yet to see that happen here so please don't compare that era to this one....

Cursed huh? Little bit of an overreaction there, especially considering what transpired last season.

But with Brown, there'd have been no Carey, which would've meant a rookie bedding in to right tackle.

Getting a centre on a rookie contract allows us to sign another mid to low level guy. Maybe Coles or Bodden. Maybe Burnett. I really don't know, what I can assure you though is our FO has evaluated every FA and every rookie available that fits their scheme. These guys are maticulous and I'd much rather they be cautious than we end up with that Scott contract.

They're trying to build a championship the right way with our own guys, over time rather than throwing money at short term fixes. At the end of the day, we've arguably had one good draft ('08) in the last decade, we don't deserve a championship. This WILL be turned round over the next 3 years and IF there is a gap in our roster that we can't fill through the draft, they'll pay the right money for the right guy. nobody can build a team through FA, all the starting calibre guys ask for too much money and some dumb *** will always pay it.

This team will be a winning one for years on end. It will not be a flash in the pan. That's because the foundations are being laid in the correct manner - through the draft.
