As per the article, the Dolphins have not yet determined whether he will play SLB or MLB.

"So he’ll either play the middle or strong-side linebacker here. That decision, if hasn’t been made yet, will be soon. And then Timmons will have a better idea of what awaits him.

“When we figure everything out, we'll get it rocking,” Timmons said “I'm a football player. I just see ball, get ball. I'm not going to glamorize it. I'm just going to play ball.”

Thought:
SLB: Timmons
MLB: Alonso (where he'd prefer to play)
WLB: Whoever we draft in the first round (Hasaan Reddick, Jarrad Davis, or Reuben Foster, should he slip)

Would be a much faster, better tackling group of LBs than we've had in quite a while witht he ability to cover TEs. Add Hayes at DE and the overall defense (run defense in particular) should be significantly better.

oh yes it is. Alonso can move his ankle biter self to the OLB position. Im tired of seeing his Chihuahua frame get run over in the middle. He is GOOD, but not for MLB

This is probably a dumb question, but I have read Timmons is a liability in coverage, so which position (MLB or SLB) would have the least coverage responsibility or would it matter? I suppose an offense could target Timmons and run routes his direction to force him to cover, but is it possible to protect him a little bit by playing him at either strong or middle in our defensive system? Thanks in advance!

Strong side would mean less coverage but would need more in pass rush than he offers.
Whatever he is an upgrade from don butler

Thought he was a decent pass rusher? Or is that just as a zone blitzer

Interesting, seems like we are keeping LB as an option at the top of the draft.

Add Reddick or Cunningham to that group and we are styling.

Where did you see Kiko wants to play middle? He's a tough guy but idk why he wants to keep dancing around guards blocks while the RB runs past him.

As someone not in the brain of the coaching staff, I don't think this has much to do with Kiko. Debating between MLB and SLB tells me Misi isn't in their plans. Look for them to draft a LB early and determine between them which is best for which positions

It will be a scheme design to prevent him from covering routes. The plan is from what we all assume is to keep in for the first two downs; then on third down switch him out and let a combo of Jenkins, Alonso and the supposed rookie. Of course who knows who we are going to get. Nate Allen will also need to play with a lot of range at FS. There is plenty of pieces still missing that we need to figure out. Don't be surprised if the defense struggles early on.

I agree, put Timmons in the middle and Kiko on the outside in space where he can utilize his speed. Lawrence can control the middle and help stuff the run game.

I would love it if the Dolphins drafted Hassan Reddick to join Timmons and Alonzo, it would be a great LB core for sure. So would drafting Peppers to join Reshad Jones at the safety position, put him at free safety and let him play center field.
