Dolphins tight end Michael Egnew said new offensive coordinator Bill Lazor is splitting him out as a receiver more often than Mike Sherman did. That’s the role Jeff Ireland envisioned for him. Ireland, by the way, will not get a job with the Seahawks after working as a draft consultant for them.

### The dynamic between Mike Wallace and the Dolphins coaching staff --- which teammates have raised concerns about in the past --- definitely has improved, with Joe Philbin making a point to say how happy he is with Wallace’s attitude and others praising his work habits.

What a bad draft pick...

Good for them to see if they is any value in keeping him on the team...

In college he excelled catching the ball in short yardage situations with quick passes. He pretty much ran the same few routes over and over, but because of his size and athletism, it worked.

It's really all he did. I think Sherman was trying to turn him into Gronk or something, I never understood WTF he was doing with egnew. But I also can't blame Sherman for trying to make him a better more well rounded player.

Egnew is 6'5" and allegedly has great hands. He made his name at Mizzou for his ability at just catching the ball. While Sherman rounded him out by improving his blocking, Lazor probably wants to understand if he is worth investing further time and effort or if it makes sense to cut bait.
He's probably on the bubble but could be a weapon to a new OC who likes to create mismatches. This is good news.

The Wallace stuff is good news. Not to be negative but Egnew better get his sheet together quickly or he may be the odd man out in the TE group.

He was a receiving tight end at mizzou why not let him do what he's good at

I think Egnew and Dion Sims are going to be competing for 1 spot. Showing versatility will help Egnew beat him out because Sims is strictly an inline tight end. They used him out of the backfield a couple of times last year and he managed a few receptions because of it, but unless he shows major improvement in camp this year I really don't see how he makes the team.

I don't think Sims is his competition as he is our blocking TE. Egnew needs to beat out the rookie draft pick Lynch and that free agent gator guy for the third spot.

Call me crazy but Egnew was solid in times he played. He caught balls his way and ran solid routes. I don't recall him whiffing terribly on any blocking assignments either.

I can't say the same for Sims who wasn't really great at having awareness blocking.

I think the biggest problem with egnew and the reason he doesn't see the field is he's not to sharp and has slow learning curve.

I think those things are whats hurting him more than anything. He came from that same easy offense Gabbert did, and it definitely didn't do either of them any favors once they got in the NFL. It's like going from middle school to college, no matter how smart or talented you are, your behind everyone else.

I think that Lynch is a lock to make the final 53 unless something drastic happens in camp. I don't see them giving up on a 5th round pick before his rookie year. Lynch is a pretty solid blocker so he might be able to take the role as the blocking tight end.

So I see Sims and Egnew competing against each other for one last spot. They both have drastically different skill sets which will make it an interesting competition, however Egnew has been here longer and has shown very little in his time. According to football outsiders last year Sims played 278 snaps on offense, while Egnew played 224. Egnew has an advantage because he is able to line up in more sets and formations then Sims, but Sims has the advantage over Egnew because Egnew can't block anything. At the end of the day if they only keep 3 TEs I don't see Egnew staying ahead of Sims. Of course they could end up keeping 4 TEs because they don't carry a true FB on the roster.
