LB Andrew Wilson UFA

Doesn't seem like anything out of this world from that footage but if he was the "2013 linebacker of the year" then he must be a little decent.

Our 2 best prospects to develop on our linebacking group appear to be Jelani Jenkins and Jordie Tripp. While other Mizzou defenders like Kony Ealy, Michael Sam and EJ Gaines (CB) got attention and were drafted, I heard nothing about Andrew Wilson. Presumably, a lot of scouts studied the Mizzou games to identify the keys to the defensive improvement. Not a good sign that he attracted so little interest on a good team.
However, it is good to give these guys a go. Some will be much better than expected.

TOP MISSOURI PROSPECTS FOR THE 2014 NFL DRAFT: 4. ILB Andrew Wilson (6-3, 240, 4.72)...Having produced top 100 picks in the last four drafts in Atlanta Falcons' standout Sean Weatherspoon and Gooden, the Titans' rookie, it is fair to say that Missouri is developing into a solid NFL distributor of future pro linebackers. Wilson, the team's leading tackler each of their past two seasons, looks next on the list.

On paper, Wilson's 79 tackles a season ago aren't eye-popping. Further, they are a drop from his breakout 2011 campaign in which he earned Second Team All-Big 12 honors with 98 stops. Wilson emerged as a better big play threat during his second starting season for the Tigers', however, ranking among national leaders (at linebacker) with four forced fumbles and showing better awareness in coverage (career-high four passes broken up).

Wilson lined up on the outside for the Tigers in 2012 but will be making the switch inside as a senior. The change could result in even more impressive numbers for Wilson, as it caters to his strengths. Wilson isn't a top-notch athlete but he plays with a good motor and hustles to the ball. He's a physical hitter who uses his hands well to rip at the ball. If he can prove capable of handling the position change, Wilson could warrant Day Three consideration. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

Wilson lines up as the Mike linebacker in the Tigers defense. He is a fifth year senior and a three year starter. Wilson has prototypical Mike linebacker size at 6’3 – 240. He is athletic, and on tape, looks more quick then fast. He has quick feet, with good lateral agility and does a good job moving through trash. I don't see really good speed. He looks to be a 4.75-4.80 type. While he lacks good top end speed, he makes up for it with top instincts and quickness. He is a good pursuit player and always takes good angles to the ball.

As I said above, Wilson is a very instinctive player. He is quick to react and is consistently around the ball. He shows strength at the point and can shed quickly. He also has the quickness to slip or elude blocks. He is a consistent, aggressive tackler. In short, Wilson is a playmaker in the run game. In pass coverage, I don’t ever see him in man coverage, but he has a good drop and is able to get depth and keep receivers in front of him. He shows awareness and good ball reactions. His plant and drive is adequate.

Overall, I see Wilson as a 3-4 inside linebacker in the NFL. His instincts will help make up for his lack of top speed. Many 4-3 teams will downgrade him some because of his speed. In a 3-4 he has a chance to be an eventual starter, but the worst case scenario is, he becomes a top backup and special teams' player. Looks to be a late mid-to-late round pick, but if he runs well, he will get drafted higher. His tape is good.

I'm from Columbia (Mizzou grad) and I watched Andrew Wilson first hand for the last four years. I will go on record as saying he is a really, really good middle linebacker. He's not flashy, but he's an amazing tackler (led Mizzou three years in a row), has a nose for the ball (see: tackling) and is ALWAYS making the right reads. You watch, he'll make this team.

I'll take that! You guys have to give Hickey some credits here, I mean the guy just keep loading up on players to shore up a week spot on the team. He just drafted one and now brings in about 3 more backers. If one or two works out, fine.

We are still looking for a replacement for Zach Thomas... I hope this draft is the answer for our new Zach Thomas.
