LB Barret Green to tryout

We are working out 64 players??????

I don't know that Barrett is better than Spragen and/or Hodge. His injury history is troublesome but I'm glad to see if he has anything left. He did once perform at a nice level and his is a position of need, OLB.

I just checked his page at NFL.com

He's only 6-0, 225. While I'm happy to give him a workout, his size doesn't seem to fit with Saban's desire for bigger LB's. He is only 28 and has played ST so.............................

Yeah,I saw those stats from a couple years ago.Pretty impressive but I guess you answered my question about why he hasn't played. How severe was the injury, obviously severe enough that he only played one game last year.Any details would be much appreciated.

If we get him...WOW!

To come to think of it, we're only a solid LB away from a superbowl defense. Good D line: we were lyk 2nd in sacks.

Fresh new secondary: signing Andre Goodman, Renaldo Hill, Will Allen and drafting Jason Allen.

Linbackers: Zack Thomas a super veteran and the raging rookie Channing Crowder(who is the future star behind the D line). We just need one more solid LB to replace Junior n will b ready for 2007

Here is the Green specific portion of the Giant's news release when he was cut in Feb. of this year.

Green’s two seasons with the Giants were curtailed by injuries that forced him to go on injured reserve. After signing with the team on March 8, 2004, he played in a total of 11 games, including just one last season.

In 2004, he appeared in 10 games with nine starts at weakside linebacker before knee and ankle injuries forced him out of the lineup and eventually onto injured reserve. Because of his injuries, Green was inactive for four games and forced to leave three others early. He finished that season with 38 tackles (26 solo), three passes defensed, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries (one returned for a touchdown).

Green never fully recovered from offseason knee surgery and was extremely limited in training camp. His only action was on special teams against St. Louis on Oct. 2. He was placed on injured reserve on Oct. 26.

Green joined the Giants after playing his first four NFL seasons with the Detroit Lions, who selected him on the second round of the 2000 NFL Draft.

He sounds like Eddie Moore??? This would be a strange pick up imo, because we don't have a true wlb anymore, do we? I can't see someone this size backing up Crowder, can you?

Again, I'm happy to give a guy who had that much talent a try-out, maybe he has something left, but it is odd to me he would try-out with us since we don't seem to favor either his size or his position??

If he even makes the team, he is not a guy I would look for to make a big impact on our defense. To this point, he hasn't been a "difference maker" in the NFL.

I am concerned that the Dolphins are becoming the NFLs landing spot for injury prone players. The list is evergrowing.

Why not give ANY player a look? What can it hurt? Saban will only keep guys who he wants, and if Saban wants 'em, I want 'em!

Green's a better player than Spragan or Hodge when healthy. His injury problems are the reason Giants were so interested in Arrington.
