How about trading Manny Wright and a late round pick (6 or 7) for Chargers LB Edwards? The guy is a top- 10 LB in some circles: he's 33 yrs. old, Manny could go home to Cali, and include a late round pick. I'm flying blind here, I've rarely seen him play, but NFL Draft Countdown and others rate him up there in terms of LB's.

Sources said yesterday the Chargers and New Orleans Saints have broken off trade talks, the Saints refusing to come up from their offer of a fourth-round draft pick in exchange for linebacker Donnie Edwards. The Saints are the only suitor to have contacted the Chargers

Couldn't hurt to offer, but at this late stage no LB will learn our complex defense in time to contribute much this year. Anyway we're not hurting @ LB as bad as everyone seems to think.

Good points, but if I could dump Manny Wright and spend a 7th for Edwards,I would sure think about it. Problem is: how much money does Edwards want?

Think about what you just said.

What GM (besides Speilman) would trade a top 10 (more like top 5 btw) LB for a 6/7th rounder and an overweight clinically depressed DT who has played all of 3 snaps in the NFL???

These trade threads are getting worse and worse IMO

Never Happen...

The trade that your discussing...Is more likely to occur in Madden NFL 2007 than it is in real life with this franchise.

Here are my reasons for that statement.

1. Saban doesn't want to keep sacrificing future draft picks for talent.

2. We have other needs on this team greater than that of LB (see below).

3. After last night's game, back-up RB, special teams and the OL are clearly the problem areas on this team.

4. In saban's 3-4 defensive scheme, another quality outside linebacker is not really a necessity.

5. The addition of Dan Wilkinson, makes our linebacker situation tolerable. And I know "Big Daddy" is not a linebacker. Let me clarify this pt. With Dan in there, the opposing runner wont be able to run up the middle on us. Thus the only thing he can do is try to go to the outside. And when he does, he will run smack-dab into Crowder and Thomas.

In fact, I'd say its pretty safe to say that our front seven is as good as or better than any other front 7 currently in the league.

That's good news for us...BAD NEWS for the rest of the league!

Gooooooooo Phinssssssssssssssssss!!!!!!!

i say we should give up jeff zgonina and a 6th for edwards or wright and a 6th.i would love to have edwards

they have luis castillo whos a stud....dont think it'll happen.....donnie is the man but at this point i am happy with our lb's

Actually that wright trade was rejected in madden 07.

The bigger problem with that deal is why would Sd trade a very good LB for a project and a late round pick? Even if Edwards is a somewhat flawed player his value is still greater.

Furthermore a 2 for 1 like that goes against saban's desire to make 1-1 trades. Every time hes traded a pick or player its always 1-1.

It also doesnt fit saban's desire for bigger players.

If they want better than a 4th rounder, then why would they take a round 6 or 7 pick from us coupled with a guy who apparantly does not want to play football?!?

Professor Slim: the Saints are balking at sending a 4th for Edwards. Next time, maybe read the article before you mouth off. And I was going to say top-5 ranking for Edwards, but I'm unsure of that. And to Bumpus, Wright has expressed a desire to play, just not for the Dolphins, be it a Miami thing, Saban thing, crybaby thing, whatever. The point is, San Diego is going to unload Edwards for under market value- why not take a run at him?

I do not think edwards is starting on SD. This is from Rotoworld.com

Donnie Edwards (back) has requested to be let go by the Chargers.
The Saints have offered a fourth-rounder for the veteran linebacker but San Diego is now steadfastly seeking a third-round pick. Matt Wilhelm has taken Edwards' spot in the starting lineup.

If this is the case SD might be willing to get whatever they can to get this guy out of there....I do not think LB is a big need for the phins but it never hurts to have depth at any position.
