LB Kelvin Sheppard Wants Phinz to sign La'el

I feel confident that probably everyone (FO, fans, players, etc) that has a connection with the Miami Dolphins, other than Dallas Thomas, wants Miami to sign him too. Obviously once he is acquitted.

Its going to come down to what teams PAYS him the most.

For sure, he is going to want 1st round money...

He's worth the money if they determine he is innocent. Arguably the best lineman in the entire draft.

He's close with Jarvis, Sheppard, and Johnson apparently so we'll see.

No it's not. UDFA's have a pay scale that teams have to adhere to. I think I saw that larger contracts can be negotiated after the second year.

He might want first round money but as an UDFA he is NOT going to get it.

Hopefully it comes down to being with friends, south beach (florida in general), a guaranteed starting spot.

Everyone will obviously offer him as much as they can, but being an UDFA hurts that part. Just let him know we will restructure his deal as soon as possible

Hell, have Ross buy him a new car, house, etc. Be like college! :d-day:

If he's cleared i'm sure La'el will find a team that'll pay him max UDFA contract. There is an article that was written about his contract situation on overthecap if anyone hasn't read it: http://overthecap.com/what-can-lael-collins-earn-as-an-undrafted-free-agent/ . Given that there are UDFA terms that cap how much a player can earn I would guess that teams like Miami where La'el won't get taxed as highly will have an advantage signing him.

That's not how it works .

league has a max you can pay . All teams will give him the same money .

He will play wherever he feels he can start 3 years and then get his payday .

Having no taxes in Florida does help but #1 priority for Lael is going somewhere he can start right away .

UDFA's basically split up a pool of about $80,000....that's not $80, 000 each...that's total. Collins will get the League Minimum if he makes an NFL team.

I know. Thats what I mean, offer him the max we can with the promise that we will extend/restructure him as soon as we can.

I am assuming the 1 biggest benefit of if we do sign him will be that he is gonna have to bust his azz to get his name cleared.Acquited or cleared his name is for now tarnished

There is a cap on UDFA...every team will offer the same amount for the first 2 years
