LB Trent Brey signed

From Nfl.com.....

SUMMARY Bray is the classic very productive college middle linebacker who lacks the athleticism and speed to be as productive in the NFL. He is shorter than ideal at barely over 6-foot, and under-sized at barely over 230 pounds, so if a blocker can get a good hold of him he struggles to shed and make plays. He lacks the desired quick burst and playing speed, but he gets started to the ball faster than you expect because his instincts help him to consistently read and react to the play fast. While he lacks explosiveness, once he gets to full speed he has decent speed chasing in pursuit and if he has a clear path to the ball, he can make plays. He is a limited athlete who is tight in the hips which hinders his ability to adjust and play well out in space -- he can't change directions quickly and ends up lunging and diving to make tackles. He lacks the quick feet, playing speed and closing burst to be affective in coverage. He is going to struggle to be more than a backup two-down middle linebacker, but with his smarts, toughness, instincts and competitiveness, he will be able to bounce around for a season or two if he can bulk up to 245 pounds.
STRONG POINTS Bray is a very smart and instinctive linebacker who consistently reads and reacts to the play quickly -- he sniffs out the screen pass very quickly. He has quick hands and can jolt blockers to stay free and can make tackles on inside runs. He reads the inside run fast, fills quickly and can disrupt plays in the backfield even when he can't make tackle. When he has a clear path to the ball, he can chase down running backs in backside pursuit.

WEAKNESSES Bray is a limited athlete when it comes to flexibility, burst and playing speed. He is an upright player who struggles to protect his legs from low stuff (blocks and traffic) and does not move through traffic well -- he does not make plays in pursuit when the path is not clear. Lacks the playing speed to stay wtih running backs and tight ends in man-to-man coverage -- he loses a step and lacks the burst to catch up. He is tight in the hips and struggles to change directions quickly and burst in the other direction -- this hinders his ability to consistently tackle well out in space.

Doesn't sound like much to me.

beat me to it lol Seems to have less of a chance to make team than McGrew.

move him to safety like they tried doin with Tony Bua last year...I know it didnt work out...but could it possibly? Saban is the mastermind when it comes to coaching the secondary.

Unfortunately whilst he isnt that big, he is slower than he is small, if that makes any sense. Runs the 40 in the 4.9 to 5.0 range.

Its not a bad signing though as a camp body, he should play hard and give his all. Any inside linebackers we sign have close to zero chance of making the team anyway with Thomas, Crowder, Pope etc on the roster.

Son of Oregon State's DC from 2000-02. Team capitan. Overacheiver but "athletically limited" according to PFW. Carries a back-up, priority free agent grade, (though higher than McGrew) according to PFW, Kiper, & Draft Insiders.

Both ESPN and TSN in their draft guides had him projected as a fifth rounder.

All give him high grades on intangibles and list him as a likely ST contributor. All also question whether he is fast enough. Probably never more than a two-down ILB.

I talked to Frank Coyle about Bray, back before the draft, since he's a Beaver and I live about 30 miles from Corvallis, they're my 2nd favorite team. He thought that Bray was the kind of guy that would be such a great headhunter on kick coverage units that he could make his way onto a roster just on his ST ability. It may take him a season or two before he's ready to start, though he was 1st team All-Pac 10 in 2005. Coach's son, his dad was formerly OSU's DC. Bray is similar to Zach in that he is very instinctive and reactive. He may run a 4.9 forty, but his brain thinks 4.4.

Woods and Henderson are gone; go to Draftdaddy.com

Get Woods Henderson and Guillory.
I would have loved to have Woods. I am hoping Miami signed Guillory and Kershaw. They need a rusher type for 3-4, and yes I realize we have Bowens and Taylor.

As with all undrafted free agents, lets just hope he can make his way on to the team through his special teams play. I had researched Bray before the draft as I did with Gerald Riggs Jr. I found that I figured Bray would be drafted as he sounded perfect for a special teams contributor.
