ESPN reports the NFL has decided to change their policy regarding uniform numbers. No details of the agreement have been disclosed.

Thats bull****, how is Bush so special that he gets the rules changed just for him? He should wear 25 or something and be happy. Edge wanted 5 when he came out and they simply said no.

Wasn't Edge wanting #2??? It really doesn't matter though, I understand what you mean. I'm not sure though if it is the league changing primarily for Bush or if it is more of the league changing for everyone. Bush isn't the first to complain about the rule and maybe they think its time for a change. It probably doesn't help with the amount of press the topic is getting though.

Bush isn't the first player to ask. Charles Woodson has been pushing to wear #2 since he was drafted. LeCharles Bently has been pushing to wear 00 Since he was drafted. Randy Moss pushed to keep #18. (Just to give you an example of a few in the past few years) This is something that the league has been thinking about for awhile now, but like usual, the only thing most fans can remember is from what ESPN is covering at the moment....ie, Bush, Bush and more Bush.

Goddamn Regghie Bush what makes him so special the guy might not even be able to play this year.:tantrum:

Guys, don't bust a nut just yet, first of all, this is a RULE change which requires league owners votes (2/3ds by the way)... which don't "just happen"

Also, ESPN also reported that they jumped the gun on this...

Uniform numbers rule change may not happen until next season
Tue, 16 May 2006

Updating a previous ESPN report, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Monday, May 15, that there still was a possibility the league's uniform number rule could be changed by a vote of owners at a meeting this month in Denver. The competition committee will issue its report on the matter to owners at the meeting. It would take a two-thirds vote of the league's 32 owners to change the rule.

Also, this again isn't just about Bush, its about numerous players that have requested waivers over the years and have been denied. Bush has already been told that he will NOT receive a special waiver to wear #5 and will only be able to wear it IF they Owners pass a rule change. This rule change would apply to all players in the league, not just Bush.

Bush's application was certainly the catalyst though. LeCharles Bentley's application to wear 00 was denied a quick case at the last meeting and was pushed back in the pile. As soon as King Reggie asks for this, everyone jumps over it all.

So i guesss BUSh Cannot get his number 5

The NFL does not have a problem with Reggie Bush asking and wearing #5...BUT the New Orleans have basically told Bush they won't let him wear #5 (according to what I heard on Sporting News radio this afternoon, sorry I don't have a link for this).

What exactly is the rule....and why?

I definitely have a problem with them catering to a certain player but I do like the looks of single digit numbers on RBs, WRs, and DBs.

Im for the change. Why not let guys wear what number they want no matter the position. Bently wants to wear #00, why not. Wont hurt anyone. I think it should change so its like college rules, anyone can wear what ever number they want. Why not have a QB with #99?
