I've seen allot of people on here with Leak as either their #1 choice for QB next year, or at least as one of their choices for next season. I never really thought he had anything worthy of being a QB in the pros, and just in general I don't like that shifty, scrambling type of QB. Give me a mid-6 foot, Daunte Culpepper type with a huge arm, smarts, and the ability to scramble when needed, while at the same time delivering a shot on the poor DB that decided to get in front of him. Well anyway, after watching a couple of series' in the UF vs. Ten game, I think I have solified my thought that I want nothing to do with drafting Chris Leak, or anyone in that mold. I will give it to him that he's got decent mechanics with ball placement, and he actually looks like he can throw the ball. But on one such occasion he dropped back, set his feet and threw the ball...... 15 yards too deep for his receiver, who was in a full sprint, and had only gone about 15 to 20 yards from scrimage. And before anyone says it, he wasn't throwing it away. Let some other team take the gamble on him, and convert him to a WR or something like that. IMO we don't need him, nor does he fit into this system. Let me know what you guys think, be nice, but honest.

First of all, Leak is not a scrambling Qb. The reason you see him scrambling as much is that he's in Urban Meyer's option system. By all means Leak is not a scrambling qb. And everybody overthrows a wide reciever. Gus did it 4 times in one preseaon game. People make mistakes.

I would much rather have a QB who occasionally overthrows his receiver, rather than one who continually underthrows his receiver

I don't agree nor do I disagree with you. Leak is a great college QB who I feel will stay for his senior season. I think he has a good shot at developing into a solid pro ala the Drew Brees type mold. With a good supporting cast, Leak will be a good one. But he is definetly not going to be the type who will be able to carry a team himself. He's got good mechanics and is a smart kid and he's what coaches call a student of the game. Chris Leak WANTS to be successful. He has huge desire and with his skills and brains, he probably will turn out to be good. All that said, I like the bigger pocket QBs also.

Hmmm...wonder who you're making reference to? ;)

So very true, and I think I know who you're talking about too. Much rather have a qb throw to the moon than constantly find the wrong uniform as well. I know everyone makes mistakes and I definately know QB's can easily overthrow. I was more bothered by the fact that it was a picture perfect drop back, perfect mechanics, plenty of time, and he just looked like he threw it as hard as he could, with not much thought into exactly where his receiver was. I've never been a vick fan for that reason. He's got great mechanics too, and he zips it like I have not seen in a very long time, but he doesn't know the difference between his receivers jersey numbers and the backend of a mule

I have been on Daunte's jock since day one. During my high school years (Coral Park High for you Miamins) we had a QB that was around 6'5, which is not huge but in High School terms it is, and around 250 to 260 and when he would throw a pick, he would look for the DB, and if the corner was unlucky enough to stay up until he got back to where the QB was, that dude would put a lick on them that they would never forget.

well...leak IS shifty, but he's certainly not a scrambler. his "shiftiness" can hurt him, though, leading to costly mistakes. he's too small, in both size and bulk, and he has way too big of a throwing motion and doesn't get enough zip on his passes. he rarely plays in anything but the shotgun and has a good supporting cast around him. good college QB, yes, but doesn't look like a good pro prospect

The more I watch the QB's that are so highly regarded for next years draft, the more I start to worry. It seems like nearly every one of them has some major flaw whether it be mechanics, accuracy, or vision. I'm still the highest on Omar Jacobs though. I sure hope that we get what we need in next year's draft.

You have about the same feeling about Leak that I do. Also, your sig is sweet, did you make it?

There are no Marinos in the upcoming draft. There might be a Favre but who knows who that QB will be.

Leak is a long way from being a pro QB prospect............yet.

I would rather go with:

1. Leinart
2. Jacobs
3. Charlie Whitehurst
4. Vince Young

I agree completely. I did watch a Bowling Green game just to watch this Jacobs kid. I have to admit that I knew nothing about him, but heard his name a few times here, and so I decided to watch the game. He was actually closer to what I like about Daunte. He's big, and I didn't see him scramble much, but if I remember correctly, when he had to, he didn't look like a stranger to the scramble. But the important part is that he had great presence, like he owned the joint, and he knew what to do with the rock

I've seen the next Brett Favre...

I've seen the next Brett Favre... his name is Brodie Croyle. Very similar style and effective. Two surgically repaired knees, but, you never know.
