Learning the Lessons of Jeff Ireland

I thought you might like the article considering you got mentioned:
"Ireland’s apologists – a huge pro-Ireland contrarian movement developed among Dolphins fans as a kind of coping mechanism – swore that the previous four years were just a build-up to 2013, when the “free beer tomorrow” sign finally came down and the taps flowed with playoff goodness."

The only thing I disagree with is that he lumped Grimes into a "lateral move"...Grimes was a major upgrade. Everything else pretty much...

You could easily make a case that as a whole it was a lateral move. I think that was his point.

Great, great article.

haha, nice find.

Pretty much this:

"When Ireland began wresting control from Parcells, the Dolphins were a strong foundation seeking a franchise quarterback. They are now a franchise quarterback (maybe) in search of a strong foundation."

Was just about to quote that part too.

I died at this.

Through it all, Ireland looked like a juggler whose three-ball routine was down pat, but who had suddenly decided to ramp things up to five chainsaws.

You cant be serious.

Parsells built a foundation? Why? Becuase we went 11-5 with Pennington?

This is crap.

You want to believe it? fine. whatever dude.

I'm no fan of Parcells, but he did assemble a very good offensive line in 2009. Probably the best we've had in 20 years.

Easily the best quote of the article. This one was also pretty good:

The dirty secret of the 2013 shopping spree is that almost exactly as much talent left Miami as arrived. Ireland had simply treaded water more vigorously. The size of the contracts Ireland offered will force the Dolphins to keep this nucleus intact for 2014, even though it is not particularly young nor particularly good. When Ireland began wresting control from Parcells, the Dolphins were a strong foundation seeking a franchise quarterback. They are now a franchise quarterback (maybe) in search of a strong foundation.

The way some people put it, the $50 million cap space we had in 2013 just magically appeared. The majority of the board seemed to forget that we had that cap room because we had more holes on the roster...despite the fact that a few of us on this board kept pointing it out. Repeatedly. For years leading up to that offseason and afterwards.

I didnt agree with everything written but its pretty hilarious. Even more amusing given the myth's perpetuated on here. You know, those utterly illogical arguments that came to a screeching halt Monday. Cant figure out why they stopped and Ireland became recognized as incompetent. Totally baffling.

Clabo was a consolation prize when Ireland could not make a Bryant McKinnie deal work. After the Incognito situation, Ireland and Tannehill got to enjoy the worst of both those worlds.

Ireland had simply treaded water more vigorously.

I liked those lines.

I'll add my own taste of Ireland:

Vontae: What did you get for me?

Ireland raises his head with a look like he wants to say 'its none of your ****ing business, boy' but instead forces out: a coupla picks

Dawn Aponte era??? What does that mean? :ponder: :ponder:

Means she is the right hand man and the eyeballs of this owner.

yeah thats your favorite part. I get it.

Bill Parcells built a foundation?????????? wtf?

btw, who was doing the contracts? Jeff Ireland or Dawn Aponte?

As soon as we figure that out then we can blame the spending on the appropriate person.

Ireland had final say. And i have it on good authority that whoever has final say is 100% at fault for everything that happened.
