Dolphins coach Nick Saban cited a lack of "explosive plays" as a major reason for the benching of quarterback Joey Harrington in favor of Cleo Lemon for Sunday's season finale at Indianapolis.
Fittingly, Dolphins wide receiver Chris Chambers provided what can be construed as an explosive assessment of the team's quarterbacking situation Wednesday when asked about the switch.
"I actually text-messaged [Lemon] yesterday that when he stepped in the game, I felt more confident," said Chambers, referring to Lemon's 11-of-16 passing performance in relief of an ineffective Harrington during Monday's 13-10 home loss to the New York Jets.
"That's not a knock on Joey. This is just how I feel about Cleo. He's worked real hard all year long and when he got his opportunity, he took advantage of it."
Sun-sentinelSaban compared the offense's performance under Harrington in defeats against the Jets and Buffalo to a record playing at the wrong speed.
"It just seems like somewhere along the line we lost our rhythm," Saban said.
Saban said Lemon effectively attacked the middle of New York's defense, something that wasn't happening enough recently under Harrington. Tight end Randy McMichael was the biggest beneficiary, catching five Lemon passes for 46 yards and one touchdown for his best offensive output in six games.
