[Miami Herald] Resisting the idea of giving younger players experience in this season's final two games, Saban met with Harrington after the quarterback's outing against Buffalo -- in which he had a 0.0 rating -- to allay any of Harrington's worries and explain Lemon would play only in the right situation.

''Coach told me what the situation was,'' Harrington said Thursday. 'He said, `I'm going to give Cleo a chance to play this week, and it doesn't affect anything. You're still my starter.' So, like I've always said, he's always been very upfront with me, and I appreciate that.''

Saban clarified Thursday evening he meant Lemon would play only if the opportunity for using him was right. Lemon has not been guaranteed any snaps against the Jets.

But he certainly would welcome them.

''Oh, yeah, definitely I want to play,'' Lemon said. ``But you have to play your role on the team, and right now I'm the No. 2 quarterback. That's my job.''

Lemon completed 9 of 16 passes in mop-up duty during the 21-0 loss to Buffalo. Saban said after the game, and repeated this week, that there is no quarterback controversy and Harrington remains the starter.

The only way, Saban said Thursday, he would consider changes at quarterback or any position is if another player gives the Dolphins a better chance of winning. Saban rejects the idea that giving a younger player experience now gives Miami a better chance to win in the future because that alienates veterans.

I disagree with this line of thinking. If the veteran is a POS then what difference does it make?? Saban showing loyalty to garbage players is just one thing I hate.

it saddens me to say it but joey give us the best chance to win right now. I mean you guys two weeks ago were all in love him (i wasnt) for the most part he lays one real bad game in bad weather and you are all calling for cleo lemon. cleo lemon? come on how good could he really be if this is the player we got for aj feely. Do you get my point. Saban is a winner and he is not goin to put in a guy just cuz cuz we cant make the playoffs he s stillgoing to try and win no matter what

Question bout the Game

Does ayone know if were starting Joey or Cleo this week?

Havent heard anything about it in Michigan

nvm delete this threadi didnt know that therre was another thread about this soorry

I hate what Saban is doing with starting Joey, I want to beat the Jests but I think its more important to prepare for next season and find out what Cleo is made of, see if he's good enough that we don't need to draft another QB for grooming.

I just hope Saban keeps a very short leash on Joey and pulls him early if he plays like he did against the Jills.

cleo isnt that young hes only a year younger then joey so that throws the whole let the younger players play thing out the window

If Joey is woeful Lemon plays, if Joey plays awesome and we are winning by big margin Lemon plays. If its close and Joey is playing ok Joey will not be benched IMO.

everyone needs a third string QB. that is all cleo will be for the duration of his time in miami. the reason i say this, is even with the signing of daunte last offseason, nick went out and got joey. cleo has 3 years in the league. he's not a rookie. at this point you are usually able to gauge a guy's abilities. if nick and the staff thought for a minute cleo could be a 2 or even a 1 they probably wouldnt have gone out and traded for harrington. so what if harrington is much more experienced, he has a career passer rating under 70. that tells you what they think of cleo. third string qb.

Although Saban is the greatest, I'm not sold on Nick's ability to gauge Quarterback abilties.

Lemon won't amount to anything in this league and is nothing but a 3rd string qb for the rest of his career and he won't be on this team next season anyways.
