Here is a scouting report:

_________is a classic tweaner that will not translate to a three point stance classic Defensive End in the NFL. He will have problems holding the point on running plays, and will most likely become an outside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme. ________does not seem to have the frame to be able to carry an extra 30 pounds and his weight room habits are lacking. ________Has excellent upfield explosiveness and can become an occasional 3rd down pass rush specialist. _______does not possess the strength and balance to stop the run in the NFL. __________is a project in every sense of the word. __________grades out as a possible 3rd round selection for a team that can use a fresh special teams body as he can later develop into a 4 down player. Comparisons to Willie McGinest may be warranted.

Can you guess who they were talking about?

I just remembered when we picked him that they said he would be a liability against the run. That turned out to be Bull$hit.

When I saw "tweener" and "possible 3rd rounder", JT was my first thought.
 
I knew it was Taylor from the moment I saw the blank and the word "tweaner".. I also knew precisely the point you were attempting to make

Well on a ceratin level they are somewhat correct. JT to this day is not a run stuffer. He is more of a run container, IMO. I think it was Jimmy's scheme that allowed him to not be a hinderance in the run-stopping game. Personally I think Jimmy created the scheme around him on running plays. He is used more to contain the running back from getting to the outside.

JT is not a tackling machine he is a sacking machine. His sole purpose is to get pressure on the outsides as fast as possible to force the running back to go up the middle. It worked great when Timbo and Chester were both healthy.

When we lost both Chester and Timbo to injuries last year, that all folded on us. Teams were able to run up the middle on us. I guess I see your point that he wasn't a run-stopping liability for us, but I think that had somewhat to do with the scheme and the size we had at DT before the injuries.

Again, I take nothing away from JT he is one of THE premier DE's in the league. Our defensive scheme would not have worked without him.
 
Okay this is a first for me. I am going to bump this, as I would like to see what others think about what I stated. Am I really that far off base or did I hit on some truths?

I have to disagree. He is always one of the league leaders in tackles for defensive ends.
