Let me ask you guys this......

I don't know why this is even a question. As others have already mentioned, Tanny breaks out and we're looking at a bright future.
 
Personally, I would take the playoffs.

What's a breakout year? A guy plays really well for a season, statistically speaking? What's to stop him having 5 crappy years after that?
 
I don't think you can have one without the other. If Tannehill has a breakout season, the Dolphins will make the playoffs; unless we lose everyone on defense and the running backs coat their hands in Crisco.

WVDolphan made the final table at the tournament in question and nearly won a seat at the main event of the WSOP in Vegas in the process. WVDolphan was defeated by a gentleman named Darvin Moon who did go on to the WSOP main event, finishing in 2nd place at that event, and taking down around 4 million dollars for his efforts.

Jesus, not only are you trolling the "start Matt Moore" topic, but now you are speaking in third person. I once respected your opinion (even though I disagreed with it sometimes) on the forum but the shtick has run its course. Please bring back the "real WV" and not this poster who is a shell of his former self.

You're wrong because Marino had a lot of great seasons and the Fins didn't make the playoffs. One does not always equal another

Given the talent on the roster and the competition, it'd be near impossible for Tannehill to play great and for the team to miss the playoffs.
 
I would take Tannehill breakout season. Despite how much football is a team game, having your quarterback play elite is the best thing you can ask for IMO, right under having a head coach who knows what he's doing.
That means success in the future with the right additions and staff changes, the QB playing well can make a lot of players play better.

If we get into the playoffs despite our QB playing bad, and we're out, Sure everyone will be excited to a degree, but what does that mean from then on? What do we improve on for next year? Tannehill sucked from a lackluster 3rd year -- so now what? Replace him? Groom a new QB?
That can take years. I'm done with that ride for now. 17 QBs since Marino, I want one that's good already.
 
Breakout year but a breakout year does not guarantee you have a franchise QB by any means.
 
I've been doing some research lately on which quarterback efficiency measurements best correlate to team winning percentage. Looked at all seasons 2004-2013 and the numbers say that TD-INT efficiency (per attempt) differential is the best predictor of overall team scoring, as well as how many games a team is going to win.

If we want to focus in on that one specific metric, the Dolphins definitely outperformed Ryan Tannehill in 2012, and were about where they should have been in 2013. Just based on that one metric, we're on pace for about 10 wins, as he's continuing to show improvement there. We'll see what happens. I remain optimistic.

There's an occurrence of fluke seasons (Nick Foles, Josh Freeman, Damon Huard and David Garrard stick out like sore thumbs in the top 28 data points), but most of the quarterbacks whose teams significantly underperformed their differential were guys I think everyone here would consider to be top ten QBs -- Big Ben, Rivers, Romo, Rodgers, and Brees. The only tomato cans who had unusual seasons and were underperformed by their teams were Daunte Culpepper and Sam Badford. In the former case, I think that's a testament to Mike Tice's awful coaching, and in the latter case, a testament to how good the NFC West was last year.

So my answer is this: I'll take my chances with a breakout season from the quarterback and a mysteriously underperforming team.

Now, let's see how long it takes for a poster who shan't be named to copy this spitball, completely misinterpret it, and post it on another forum. :lol:
