Pre-season is more of an evaluation of possible starters. It also shows how efficient your 2nd team is as well but more importantly, coaches hold a point chart for each player. Specially if the team is dealing with a very competitive position that has 3 possible starters for that job. Its different in other ocassions like if you have a veteran that was brought in to vent in the offense such as Dante. The only thing that you have to keep in mind is that the coaching staff is making corrections with how they manage the game and manage the players playing time.
