5-11...Yup thats the record of BB's first patriot team. And what was their record the next year? The fact of the matter is we replaced over half of the team. We have 5 people left from our last 3 drafts before saban. We are using a new defensive system that only 1 person knows(and he's a rookie). We have switched to a new offensive system, a new QB, and have had to re-coach one of the worst lines ever to play in the nfl. We have a new head and a mixture of players. Our defense is old and looking for a championship. Our offense is young and looking for an identity. We have beaten 2 SB contenders, and were less than 10 yards from beating two others. When the offseason started we had marginal talent and were 17 million over the cap, now we have decent talent and next year we will be 20 million under. We had one of the best drafts in the NFL! 3 of our players are starters and are getting better every day. 3 more will be playing for starting spots next year. No other team can boast that, especially when you consider none of them were given spots from injury. Our team is big, physical and they hurt people. Who honestly believes we are SB contenders? Who thinks Gus Frerrote "the guy"? Our coaches give us good schemes that we have trouble executing.

I want everyone who reads this to ask your self this question. Are we better than we were a year ago? Is our team improving? Is there anyone here who even has a doubt that we will be even better next year?

I am proud to be a fin fan. I am proud even when they break my heart over and over again. I like the way our team is going. AND i know that if things don't improve saban will make a change. If chambers keeps dropping balls we will have a New #1 reciever. If frerrote can't get it done some one else will. if penalties are constant some one's head will roll.

Saban has taken away our biggest crutch. Players can no longer complain about a bad coach, or a bad staff. Saban keeps us competative even when we shouldn't be. He takes the blame even when it's not his. It is now up to the players to execute. There can be no dropped balls, or interceptions, or fumbles, or missed kicks. There can be no missed blocks, or bad passes, or stupid penalties. If players do their job we will win.

Saban is instilling something special. It is not about beating the other team. It is about not beating yourself. And if we do that the win will be there.

If only fans could no longer complain about bad coach or staff. You are absolutely right and I love your post. I wish people would stop blaming Saban or Linehan for putting our team in a position to win each and ever week.

I tell you man, I'm afraid of a huge letdown in the next few years. I hope we go all the way to the SB for the next 50 years, but what if we don't?

I don't think we've ever built up this amount of "expectation" in forever. We all expect Saban to turn this team around within the next few years, but what if he doesn't and we turn into a Top-10 draft team for 20 or so years?

I really hope we get better as time goes on, trust me on that. But there's always that shred of doubt in my mind, I pray Saban erases it all away

I know in my heart you are right, but this is gonna be the forth year in a row that we are disappointed. Its tough being a DolFan right now......very tough.

Saban needs to hit on more draft picks and FA's next year.

Why do so many people compare Saban to BB? Why? Just b/c BB was 5-11 his 1st year and then has won 3 SB doesn't mean that its going to happen here.

BB also has Brady...the Fins...don't!!!

BB also has players who make plays when it counts most...the Fins...don't.

I know it's Saban's 1st year and overall...I'm happy with him and his staff...but the Fins need to build their OWN Identity...I don't want to be compared to the Pats.

Overall...I feel that this team has made progress and is a better team than last season. I feel that we will improve and have a better chance next season.

I'm impressed with our O-Line...our O-Line Coach has done a great job with the same players we had last season.

I love Ronnie Brown...this kid needs to touch the ball more...Scott Linehan needs to run the ball more with Ronnie...especially in the second half.

It would be nice to win our next three games!!!

Yes...I have faith that we can.

Go Fins!!!

Thanks man good post. The nuckleheads on thsi site won't read it > probably to long for there attention span but right direction instead of
"This guy lost us the game"
"No, this guy lost us the game"

I still predict 7-9 or 8-8. I have to admit that a few weeks ago I was starting to get excited and I jumped on the playoff bandwagon but now that I've had some time to really look at the big picture, 7-9 is fine with me. It's a big improvement and like you said there is no reason to believe we won't improve even more next season.

I've said 8-8 all year long. I would still be fine with 7-9 because it is still showing improvement. I mean sure, this team can win thier next seven games(any team can). They aren't as bad as thier record shows. But I only expect 3 more wins. I'm hoping for 7, then 6, then for a .500 record. No matter what though, I won't be dissappointed, because I can see the team is going in the right direction. And I hope we don't let Linehan go any time soon. Our offense does move the ball better this year, I agree though Ronnie needs to touch the ball at least 20 times a game. Once we get the right quarterback, or our current one starts to click. Everyone else will have to watch out.

The main reson for the Bengels slump was due drafting bust after bust. In one year, Saban has had one of the better drafts in recent years so I don't see how we can suffer the same fate as the Bengels

Coaching can only take you so far, it is up to the players to execute. This is Saban's first year as coach, and everyone is complaining about him already. The fact is Saban did not see a QB that he wanted to take in this past years draft. So he went with a proven backup that already knew the offense. I don't think Saban was expecting this team to be playoff contenders this year. But he did expect the fins to be competitive. And so far they have been. We are 0-3 in our division which means we will not make the playoffs. I think we are better off getting a better draft pick(QB) than making the playoffs and getting killed in the first round. I think going into the season our offense was way too hyped up and they are showing they are not as good as we'd hoped. So if Saban doesnt address the QB and CB(2 that i think are the most urgent) then it is time to question wether this man is making the right decisions for this team.

Isn't it funny how as the season moves along we all jump from we need O lineman to we need CB's in the upcoming draft. We all need to sit back and relax and let the coaching staff do what they do. I can't remember the last time we talked about Mckinny or Carey or Hadnot. The turn around this O line has made is astounding we have to thank coaching for that. This ship is moving in the right direction one brick at a time. Saban didn't win a National Championship in his first year at LSU and he isn't going to win a Super Bowl at Dolphin Stadium in his first year here, but he is going in the right direction.

The Bungals ownership also was a problem. He NEVER spent the max, but only about 80%. FA's were almost always journeymen types, never front-line type guys. Supposedly Mike Brown now is committed to winning, and has spent the salary cap the last 2 years.

Excellent Post!....Well said, the only thing I would somewhat disagree with in what you said, and it may be just semantics, is that I do think Saban's philosophy is to beat the other team, one of things I've noticed and that has me really excited about the future is how this team physically punishishes its opponents. Its in his mantra that plays when you open the Dolphin insider on the official website, he wants teams to hate playing us because of how intense and physical we will play the game. I love that.
