Let Vikings vs Redskins begin for our # 2

Skins dont have the value to offer us- they dont have many picks. The Vikes deal would be just perfect and I could definitely see Nick trading out of 18 for a later 1st and a 2nd rounder and possibly more. He wants lots of picks- its no secret!

Yes, but think of it this way. I'm the Vikings, do I want edwards? Or do I want say Mike Williams or a RB at # 7 and Clayton maybe at 18?

I would love the Vikings to trade us there picks but the Redskins are more likely to do so.

How about the Redskins # 9 and Sean Taylor for our # 2.

at 18 id LOVE thomas davis... seeing him patrol our Safety spot i feel hes the next roy williams

Both teams are reportedly hot for Edwards, let them fight it out for who wants to give us the most picks!!!

This draft that many thought was dull and boring months ago, has gotten pretty dam exciting in my eyes!

It will almost be a downer if we stay at # 2 and take Ronnie Brown now!
I don't think you have to worry about taking Brown at #2

If by chance we were to get minny's 7 and 18, what do you think the likely hood of us picking up any of the top three backs at 7 and picking up A. Rodgers at 18 (given SF takes A. Smith)?

According to Redskin fans, Gibbs made a comment in their pre-draft press conferrence that they would explore ALL possibilities of moving up, down, whatever. Fans seem to think that the media took this and ran with it and now they are 'desperately' trying to trade up for Braylon Edwards.....when in fact in may be more like IF they traded up that high, it would be for Edwards.

Meanwhile, the Vikings are not in bad shape to sit at #7 and hope that Mike Williams falls to them.......I don't see much difference in value between Edwards and Williams, and only the Vikings FO knows which they prefer....if they even really want a WR at #7.

So, my bottom line is, that I don't think that we are going to be able to get equal value for the #2 pick, and that we may face the situation of taking less than equal value in a trade, or keeping the pick and deciding between: Aaron Rodgers, Ronnie Brown, Braylon Edwars, Mike Williams, and maybe Derrick Johnson.

Since we're kicking Davis around here, I have had a thought: maybe we don't get a 2nd (this year) for Pat -- maybe we trade up with the Chiefs to get their 1st so we can take a guy like Davis who might not make it to 18. Depending on whose 1st rounder we have, it would be either Surtain and that pick for their pick or for their pick and a 2006 pick.

I agree, if I'm the Vikings I sit and see what happens. They can get Williams USC) and or a top three RB at # 7 and still get Clayton at # 18

I think the Redskins maybe our trade partners.

yes yes... I can see it much clearer now..... :D

But seriously, THIS does entertain ANOTHER option. All along, we might have been looking at the Surtain trade in the wrong light. As a runaway train on a one way track.

Entertaining this idea, let's say we trade #2 for a package that includes 2 #1s this year and a 2nd or 3rd round. Now that there are a few teams with 2 picks in the 1st, and a few have been mentioned as partners for us, it WOULD make sense to utilize the LOWER 2nd 1st Round pick in a package with Surtain to get a 2nd high 1st pick. OR Surtain and a 2nd or 3rd (maybe netted in our #2 trade) to acquire yet ANOTHER 1st rounder.

I could see something unfolding where we trade #2 for 2 1sts and 2nd or 3rd (depending on the POSITIONING of the 1sts). Then package the 2nd or 3rd and Surtain for yet another 1st.

Thus, Surtain and #2 = 3 1sts.

This is a MAJOR LIMB I'm on, but I think the moral of the story is... by WAITING for suitors, we have created possibilities exponentially. I think as of today, we have incredible flexibility with our draft possibilities.

This is building up to one of the most exciting Phinz draft in years.

I think this all depends on where the Vikings think they are. If they absolutely have to get Edwards or M. Williams, I think they have to trade up with us or they'll find themselves stuck having to trade up at almost the same cost (probably losing the mid-round pick required) just to get Williams. If they prefer Edwards, why do that? Remember, it isn't necessarily just skill there. They play in the NFC North, so I imagine they have their share of Michigan fans even if it's like 10 hours from Michigan to there. At minimum, he makes more geographic and rivalry sense than a west coaster like Wililams does.

I worry about the Redskins as our trade partners. Are they really so willing to spend as much as they will be spending just at the two 1st rounders to move up? I just don't know that I see it.

The Bucs are still pretending they're after Alex Smith. They're not going to publicly announce that is a bluff. They may very well still be in the mix. We won't know until somebody pulls the trigger and somebody talks, though.

I think my question got lost in the mix. Anyone have an opinion on this?

I think if one of the top three backs are there yes, if not he takes Merriman at # 7

At # 18 he would look at Clayton, Williamson, maybe another RB (but to much value to do that here)

At #7, it is a mathematical certainty that one of these players will be around:

Brown
Benson
C. Williams
Edwards
M. Williams
Smith
Rodgers

If it is anybody but Rodgers, that will be who we pick at 7 if we stay there. I really don't know that I see Nick drafting Rodgers. Luckily, it is almost certain that the Titans aren't taking one of those 7 so two of them should be out there for us.
