Lets ask Boomer and CK!!

Hey guys one spot that no1 is really paying attention on here is our defense of secondary. There could be some really good talent there in the 2nd round and i think thats one of our weakest areas. Do you think we'll take some1 on the first day and which safeties and db's fit our defense system the best? Does a guy like merriweather, who has a boatload of talent but could slip on draft day fit in with the guys we have now?

Thanks CK and Boomer, your analysis of players are well received. Its sort of like Christmas for Miami football fans at this time of year. Keep up the good work and regardless of what the haters say, you two will allways be loved here on this forum.

That's so tough. They all, I think, have starting ability in the NFL. What bothers me with Stanton is that he's probably TOO intelligent. He's a very, very bright kid. But that works against him, because he's over analytical to the point of distraction. He takes a bad play with him into the next one and so on and so forth. But he's also shown the first round grade throughout his career.

Beck I can't help but like. In my post 2006 draft thread in VIP last year, I highlighted Beck and Rowe as 2 QB's to watch. John had an excellent season and I've said it a million times, he reminds me of Rich Gannon with a much better arm.

Kolb is an interesting guy. He has that sort of lazy delivery, that quirkiness to his motion, but he's very effective, very accurate and both he and Beck especially are Cameron's kind of passers.

So who do I prefer?

Colt Brennan.

;)

To the point where you would pass on Quinn this year Boomer? If we take a qb this year, then Colt is out of the question next year.

I was thinking the same thing. Boomer or CK, what are ur thoughts on Brandon Meriweather at #40

Tough.

I suppose something like this for me:

9: Brady Quinn
40: Ben Grubbs
60: Sidney Rice
71: Doug Free

Something like that.

I like the fact that you are hitting all the "need" positions, and not "strictly' selecting BPA, at least, that's the way it looks to me.

What's that mean? That if you ask a question on this site and you aren't a "vip" member you can't get an answer. Or that the answer you would get would be so much wiser on the "vip" site.

Neither, but these questions are often discussed at length. Sometimes I think the big three draft guru's prefer not to post here because of the ridicule they get. Not the case in this thread, and that is very refreshing to see..

Yes, probably a 6th. But he may go higher. He achieved a punter's nirvana last year, the 40 yard net. He's old school, a coffin corner kicker. He's had three kicks over 80 yards and 6 over 70 in 4 years.

Hmmmmm. I ask myself this question every time I see some guy try to have his runners get it at the 5...Why dont more guys go after the coffin corner? (Not really expecting an answer, just me pondering out loud)

You have 6/7 QB's who could go in the first 60 picks. That's pretty good.

Thanks for all your insight and opinions Boomer, but I still kind of have to disagree with you on the strength of this QB class. I guess it isn't "weak" like I said before, but I wouldn't say it's anything special. Yes, 6 or 7 QB's could be gone by Day 2, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they deserve to be taken that high. Almost all of the second tier guys have some pretty big disadvantages. I guess time will tell how strong this QB class is.

its probly because they are not accurate enough to put it where they want to

I think one ideal draft I've been considering involves Joe Staley at the top at #9.

It would probably look something like:

#009: LT Joe Staley, Central Michigan
#040: DE Tim Crowder, Texas
#060: QB John Beck, BYU
#071: OC Samson Satele, Hawaii
#108: NT Paul Soliai

From there, in the 6th and 7th rounds you'd be targeting to get a return specialist (I like Tim Mixon, the corner from Cal, and Legedu Naanee from Boise State), another OL (Kyle Cook, Adam Koets, Dane Uperesa, etc), another DE/OLB type (Xzavie Jackson, Brian Smith, etc), and a punter (Sepulveda probably gone, looking at Podlesh or the kid from Miami).

Now, on the other hand, Miami's sniffing the crap out of Ted Ginn Jr. and he represents probably the most serious non-Quinn possibility in this draft at the #9 spot.

If that happens, they'd have to get their OT later...and my suggestion is Doug Free at #60 or #71. That could even bump John Beck up to #40.
This is really helpful Ck. I don't think our odds of getting Quinn are good unless we mortgage the farm and I think we can't afford to do so. We have a lot of needs. Our entire offense is in bad shape. I know people are worried about our secondary and our aging defensive line but if we don't address our offense we're not going to win a game.

I really liked seeing that mock as I think our needs in order are QB, OL, Secondary, DL, WR, backup RB and punter. I really would like to see our first 3 picks going to get us a good QB, LT and then best CB or WR available. Anyway I really appreciate our draft guru's here in this thread. I'm so excited for next weekend!!!!

Every QB in this draft has a weakness. Like beauty...QB's are seen, with the eye's of the beholder.

I think it's a concern. But Kolb has worked very hard with Jerry Rhome under center since the end of the season. He looked smooth in his Pro Day from under center and he's apparently shown the requisite foot quickness and body control in his drops that the NFL is looking for. But you really won't know too much until he's facing live bullets. All that said, it's not like he's not played from under center at Houston, because he has, regularly, so whilst there's a concern, it won't be that big.

And we won't have to teach him the shotgun...:D

Couldnt have said it any better myself. Even Superman has a weakness. But, all that matters is Cam and Randy finding that qb that fits their system. Thats the most important thing. Doesnt really matter to me who it is as long as they are correct in who that guy is and he lives up to it.

I believe with no trades it could look like this;

#009...ILB Patrick Willis

#040...C Ryan Kalil

#060...QB Kevin Kolb

#071...OT..James Marten

#108..S...Josh Gattis

# 181 NT...Kelly Talavou

Boomer or CK...do you see us drafting a Kicker? i really like Mason Crosby, and who knows if he falls due to poor performance in the combine. i really dont think Feely is the answer, nor is Prater. Perhaps someone like Nick Folk can be drafted since he has both punting and kicking experience.
