Ok guys HUGE Fin fan from WV. I only got to see about 2 games and also my computer crashed and didnt have access for over half the season.

I was wondering if you guys who have gotten a chance to watch the games and pay more attention would kind of go over each pick and let me and everyone else on here know how they did and how they look for the future of our team.

1) Jake Long
2a) Phillip Merling
2b) Chad Henne
3) Kendall Langford
4) Shawn Murphy
6a) Jordan Parmele
6b) Donald Thomas
6c) Lex Hilliard
7) Lionel Dotson
also gotta ask about UDA) Devone Bess

And also what do you guys think we need in the 09 draft

I say we need to give Teddy Ginn one more year. He had his moments.

Teddy Ginn - showed some flashes, seems affraid to take a hit so he def. needs to play harder. Is def. talented though and I still think he could develop and be an amazing player for us(atleast I hope so)

09 Draft needs in order:

ILB
CB
OLB
NT
Safety
RT
TE
WR

What do you guys think. Please give me all the info and ideas you can.

Here are my thoughts...

Jake Long: excellent job this year. He allowed only 2.5 sacks and was a mauler in the running game. He is only a rookie I cant wait to see him next year.

Merling: played well in a platoon role. I think he developed nicely over the year. THat play against the jets was great.

Henne: N/A

Langford: solid starter all year, I think he will develop into a dominant run stopping DE.

Murphy: N/A

Parmele: N/A

Thomas: shows signs in preseason that he is going to be a very good G. I look forward to seeing him next year.

Last but not least Davone. What an asset he became. I think this kid is going to be a stud. He has great hands and is quick as hell. I look at him as a solid WR for years to come.

I happen to agree with you regarding Ginn. I think he had a solid year. This offseason he needs to work on his body and gain weight. I think his hands and speed are good. His route running is getting better. His biggest issue is when teams play physical with him.

As far as draft needs...

Linebacker was a glaring weakness. We need a playmaker at the LB spot.

Could use depth in the secondary, possibly find a replacement for Hill.

Oline and Dline

I would see if we can get another WR via FA.

Jake Long should get an A. Started in every game and played with heart and id going to anchor this o-line for a long time. He is a BP guy and he will only get better. With his first season under his belt and now going into the off-season i expect him to be dominant.

Merling--C+, that is generous. He only had about 25 tackles and one sack. But he had the HUGE pic for a touchdown against the jets. He did get some experience though which is good but he didnt really live up to the expectations we had yet. But he still has a lot of room to improve.

Langford- B. Langford had some better stats than merling and showed up a lot more then merling. Langford is a typical 3-4 DE, a big body who can stop the run. I really liked watching him this year and think he will do real well next year.

Henne-D? Didnt play enough so its hard to grade, but because he didnt do well during camp and the preseason was why we went after penny in the first place. Now if Penny is the QB for the next two or three years then maybe Henne was a wasted pick but its still early to tell.

Murphy at least made the team so we can give him a D. i dont really know how well he did or if he even played at all.

I dont think anyone else made the team so they get F's. May be a little harsh but there all wasted picks if they dont make the team.

Donald Thomas a D+. He showed some promise but did get hurt, still early to grade him. If he can recover and stay healthy he may become a starter but who knows.

Bess-A++++. For being an undrafted WR he did amazing. He was third on the team and recieving and turned into out most reliable threat towards the end of the year. He needs a breakaway #1 receiver to help him become a great slot receiver tho.

Draft Needs-- If they dont resign crowder than an ILB. Lauranitis didnt have a great year this year as last maybe he could slip with Mauluga and Curry going ahead of him. Maybe 3 ILB could get drafted in the first 25 spots but idk. Lauranitis is 20th on Kipers board right now, he could fall to us.

We definately need help in the secondary. A lockdown corner maybe Vonte Davis from Illinos will fall there? or another D1-AA player like Rogers-Cromartie will arise. I would love to get Taylor Mays from USC the guy is just a stud and can flat out fly.

I would love for us to get a dominant WR, either Hicks from UNC or the guy from Rutgers are both studs. Big bodies and can catch the ball.

A NT as well maybe Brace or Raji from BC. I played against Brace in HS and he was an absolute monster then. Also the guy from Nebraska would be nice as well.

This has been one of the best drafts we have had in a while, maybe even the best this decade. Long is a franchise LT and takes Jon Ogdens place in the AFC LT Pro Bowl spot as one of the best in the league. Merling/Langford are going to get better as they get older, hopefully they can get to the QB more. Henne really determines how great this draft can possibly be. If he ends up the real deal, this would be an amazing draft. Donald Thomas will be back and be a "God send" when he returns as our big Tuna calls him. Devone Bess...enough said about him.

1) Jake Long A
2a) Phillip Merling C-
2b) Chad Henne incomplete
3) Kendall Langford B+
4) Shawn Murphy F
6a) Jordan Parmele F since hes gone
6b) Donald Thomas Incomplete
6c) Lex Hilliard F
7) Lionel Dotson Incomplete
UDA) Devone Bess A+ obv since undrafted

BTW Dan Carpenter A+

ILB
CB
OLB
NT
Safety
RT
TE
WR

What do you guys think. Please give me all the info and ideas you can.

For not watching many games I think you pretty much nailed the needs in order with two exceptions.

I'd move OLB down below safety since we have Porter, Anderson, and Roth. Not that we don't need a young studthere but the other needs are higher I'd say. We NEED a stud center and NT. You build inside out as Sparano has said and we definitely weren't dominate here.

The 2nd is I'd get TE out of there. Fasano and Martin were great this year an dthe kid Haynos is BIG. We need WR help way before TE. I'd move OL in there before TE.

My wild card is a trade with Dallas for their OT Pat McQuistan to replace Carey. Maybe it's Beck so they get their young QB but since Dallas locked up all of their starters through 2011 or close to that they don't really need the young OT since by the time he can play he will be a FA. He is a luxury and a young backup QB might be more valuable. It's at least a hope! Jerry is the GM remember.

Jake Long: B Thank goodness he agreed to a deal before Gholston.... As much as I love the pick after spending all these years watching turnstiles at LT its hard to ignore what Ryan did in Atlanta.

Merling: B- I think hes going to turn out to be a great pick......but there's enough doubt after a rather lackluster rookie season.

Henne: C Hindsight is 20/20....but it sure would be nice to have had another DB or LB in the fold.

Langford: A Great pick....

Murphy: D Didn't look very good.....I doubt he's around next year.

Parmele: B A good pick and I think he has a future in the league.....unfortunately its not with the Dolphins

Thomas: A+ A steal if he can make it back to his previous form.

Bess: A+ Enough said already.....

I get the impression that the plan was to upgrade the trenches 1st year, linebackers 2nd year, and skill positions 3rd year. Pennington falling into the phin's laps moved everything up a bit and Parcells and co. will have to try and find him another weapon this offseason. But I still think the three picks in the first two rounds will net a couple LBs and Parcells will again target one of the top FA Suggs/Scott/Peppers to give Porter some help. Expect another rather boring offseason where Parcells targets a few of "his" players and keeps trying to build up depth on the defensive side.

well i am really on cornerback Malcolm Jenkins bandwagon what about you guys.?

Hey guys,
THanks a lot for all the reply's I really appreciate it. Its sometimes a little hard getting info up here in WV. But THANK you all very much.

Anyway ACE FIN 500 I am huge on Malcom Jenkins as well but I do not think he will be falling to us

I was huge on Cromartie the year we took Jason and Allen and the only reason he fell was b/c of injury so I doubt we will be seeing Malcom Jenkins.

But anyway I agree with everything all of you guys said and really do appreciate the replies.

The Phins did an amazing thing this year and have me totally pumped to be a Dolphins fan again. I mean I was never going any where but it has been a little tought the last 6 or 7 years but this really has been the best draft we have seen in probably the past decade. So lets hope for another one and we could be on our way.

Once again. THANKS guys. anymore ifo you have would be greatly appreciated.

2009 Needs

Primary: Interior O-Line, Pass Rusher, Wide Receiver, Free Safety
Secondary: Middle Linebacker, Nose Tackle

Jake Long: A++ He did everything expected and some more. Definately will be our Left Tackle for many many years to come

Phillip Merling: C+ Him coming off the bench keeps this grade from getting a B but was very good coming off the bench. Numbers weren't gr8 but that was just a spectacular play he made against Farve. Wouldn't be suprised if he takes over the starting role next year.

Chad Henne: Inc. Its rather hard to grade a rookie QB that was backing up a QB as good as Chad Pennington but had Big Tuna not picked up Chad Pennington, Henne would've started. Was outplaying both John Beck and Josh McCown. His play in the preseason definately changed my views towards him since I WAS a major John Beck fan during last years offseason (guess I was wrong this time WVDolphinfan). I don't want to put all my marbles on this guy yet, but I really believe he's the QB of the future that will lead us to the Super Bowl :woot:

Kendall Langford: B+ Was a pleasant suprise. Hard to put high expectations on a third rounder but he has impressed. Started all 16 games & made many impact plays. Will be starting for many years to come.

Shawn Murphy: F+ When you're drafted, you're expected to produce. When you're outplayed by a guy that the team drafted in the 6th round, maybe the team got lucky... HOWEVER, when your team loses both its starting RG & LG & you STILL can't get on the field, that tells you something. This guy really needs to step his game up if he wants to succeed in this league. Big Tuna actually traded up in the fourth round to get this guy... & I know its to early to say the word, but he has the word BUST written all over him. I hope he proves me wrong.

Jalen Parmele: D- He was definately in a no win situation. This team already has Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown Running the rock. Patrick Cobbs suprised all of us this year also. Their was just no room for this guy on the roster so Baltimore picked him up. I guess he might be something.

Donald Thomas: Inc. This guy was on the verge of suprising everyone b/c he really just came out of nowhere. When Big Tuna even labels you a "godsend" that says something. This guy got hurt in the Jets game but still played through the injury & perhaps him injured was still better than the two guards we had starting at the end of the season. I'm not a big fan of depending on guys coming back from injury b/c things happen, & some players never return to what they once were. I hope this isn't the case with this guy. I hope he comes back & dominates like all my fellow Dolfans think he can...

Lex Hillard: Practice Squad player.... see Jalen Parmalee

Lionel Dotson: D- What can one expect from a seventh rounder. Unless he seriously steps up his game, I doubt their will be much of a future in him.

Now for the undrafted guys.

Davone Bess: A+++++++!!!! Where the heck did this guy come from? We came into camp knowing that our receivers were young but this guy really emerged & if it weren't for Jake Long being a beast, would easily get my rookie of the year! Anytime We needed a play for a first down, he was there. He knows how to play the game & will only get better. Ted Ginn, Greg Camarillo, Davon Bess. That trio of Recievers makes me smile once Camarillo comes back from injury.

Dan Carpender: A+ Was very consistant this year. When he was brought into camp, I really thought he was just there to push Feely into working hard. I had absolutely no clue that he'd actually take Jay Feely's job especially considering the fact that Feely had an outstanding season last year. He's definately our kicker for many years to come.

just remember 3-4 DEs are gonna be stat machines. They are often double teamed because they only have 3 D-linmen instead of 4 to block
