Have to admit he did play with a lot of energy and he exhibited marked improvement over last years play. He seems to be taking the bull by the horns and is starting to "flash" as TS would say!!! With continued improvement and some consistency this could change the draft priorities for next year.....one can only hope.

Even if he picked it up a bit, he is still in his thirties and he wouldn't change our draft needs because of his age.. And he wouldn't change the lack of depth at the position.

If there is a ILB who they really like, who rates high on their board and falls to them, they will draft him no matter what Akin does this year.,

I did enjoy how he slid off the Tampa RB in the second quarter. It was a brilliant missed tackle.

people want/ed to replace crowder, imo the spot that needs upgrading is aydele's. that is why i was so surprised to see us pass on maualuga.

I am actually an AA fan. That missed tackle made me shift in my chair as I told myself..."Its only preseason." Do we not make tackles during preseason?

Holy smokes I was mad. Pat White was a terrible pick.

Maualuga was taken before our second round pick. The only linebacker taken after Pat White in the second round was Clint Sintim who's an OLB.

That stood out to me as well but Akin played with a lot emotion in the game. He made some nice plays and really got after it. He had 7 tackles in the game. I was happy with him regardless of the missed tackle. He is a team leader.

On a side note I was once again disappointed with Crowder. The guy told us during the offseason he was going to be more structured in this defense but I still see him as he called it last year "Running around out there". "The Ghost" as I like to call him for obvious reasons still runs around blocks and chases plays. Only 3 tackles in the game. It bugs the piss out of me watching him. I guess we will always have the same player in him.

Big motor, no awareness.

Time to upgrade.

i was referring to the first round, before davis. that was the pick i expected, but i can't complain about davis or smith.

would I need to be fitted for a straitjacket if I was secretly crossing my fingers that either Kershaw latches onto one of the ILB depth positons, or if Beau Bell, or Bobby Carpenter get released from their respective teams so we can hopefully bring one of them in????

Beau Bell impressed me in his UNLV days and I kinda hoped we drafted him so here's to wishful thinking and in a sense "lightning striking twice" for us.

I'll get the measuring tape.

Actually I was really hoping we got Clint Sintim. He played in the 3-4 in Virginia under Al Groh and some of the scouting sites said he looked like he could play ILB. And I thought we could really use more talent there. When we picked Pat White I was shocked.

"Let's hear some love for Akin"

I'd LOVE to see ANY decent ILB play.

I've seen flashes, but no consistency.
Our ILBs ususally come running up to the pile as the play is finishing. With the TV coverage showing mostly tight shots, our ILBs are seldom seen, check it out & you'll see.

Oh for the days of Zach .... big play developing for 10+ yds ... SNUFF for a loss. We used to yell out, "Zach-i-fied!!"

I couldn't make up my mind on the DeAngelo Williams run whether Akin was terrible for getting out of position and losing track of where the runner was, or brilliant for mostly avoiding the three Panthers that dove at his feet. Crowder got blown up by the TE on that play too, not sure he even saw him.
