what if RW didnt retire and instead tore a ACL and was out for the season? What would our record have been then? 4-12 still?

Im sick of people blaming RW for our poor season, its the job of the FO and Coach to have depth on the team.

Did the Pats fall apart went Drew went down? Nope, they had a good back up in Brady, who played even better then they hoped. When McNabb went down, did the Eagles fold? Nope, they had a good back up in AJ. Same with last year and TO.

Good teams know how their team will react to key loses. They plan for it because they know eventually someone will get hurt and your back ups will play.

You DONT pin all your hopes on a couple of very good players, its a team game and everyone needs to be able to help when needed.

Last years awful season is soley on the shoulders of Wanny and has nothing to do with a guy who retired and a few injuries because thats how football is, you know loses will come, you need to be able to plan ahead for them.

Hence, Saban, drafting a LB and DE even though they werent a greater need in some peoples minds then a QB. Really, what would a rookie QB do for us this year? Nothing, he would back up AJ and Gus. We already have depth there. On the other hand, he brought in Carter, Holiday, Roth and now we have great depth and talent at DE along with JT. We can live through some injuries. Same goes at RB which was a very weak position last year and now has a ton of talent in.

The program one sets up is more important then a single player. Wanny's program was weak and hence could be destroyed by a few key loses. This wont happen with Saban.

there were a lot of issues other than rickey
its not just a matter of missing a player, its psycological to have somone quit on you like that
having no DT's didnt help eaither

Wanny was a moron and I agree even if Ricky would have played last year I doubt we would have broken 8-8. That O-line was terrible, terrible, and o yea they flat out sucked.

Oh, so we have a mentally weak team I guess. Who does ones team take after?? The COACH.

I think more people are blaming Wanny than Ricky. But we lost more than RW. If you remember correctly everybody we put in the backfield got hurt. Minor, Gordon, Morris, Konrad. We lost Boston at the beginning of the year. It was more than no backups. We needed a backup to the backups of the backup. But more than anything Wanny was to blame. I agree with not blaming RW for it all.

I know what you are saying. I admit this team had a lot of problems and bad breaks, but imo they all started with one man.

Look at NE, they won the superbowl and had a WR playing CB for part of the season due to injuries. I dont think Wanny would've won the superbowl if he was coaching NE last year.

Yeah, he didnt play and we got are butts handed to us. Besides even if he did play our offensive line was horrible and he couldnt have been ale to do anything.

I've always said, Ricky retiring accelerated Wanny's departure. Personally, I thank Ricky for retiring. He motivated a situation that needed to be concluded.

Goodbye Dave!

The team gave up on Wanny Period! We could have had Barry Sanders and he wouldnt have done **** behind that line

I agree with this. The system sucked. It depended all on the defense and controlling the clock. No adjustments were ever made to the strategy or players involved. We had different off cord., but Wanny would not let them run their offenses. We had good offensive coaches having to coach in handcuffs the last few years.

i dunno maybe if he "just" would have torn his ACL maybe WH wouldn´t have fired DW and we would still be with that guy, so thx god he did what he did

The issue was that RW abandoned his teammates when the team did not have a chance to acquire someone to replace him.. That is all the RW did that hurt the Fins...

The reason for the poor season was Wanny and staff....After finding out that RW was not going to be there, they refused (or were not capable of) to alter the offensive scheme that was in place prior to RW leaving. Without his rushing ability and without any suitable replacement, that scheme doesn't work. The passing game was hinged upon being set up by the run. When we couldn't run, we couldn't pass. Additionally, the OL (probably due to poor scheme, not necessarily the athletes themselves) never came together as a unit until late in the season, as well as the indecisiveness in the QB position. Now that we look back on all this, was AJ's relatively poor showing due to that indecisiveness in choosing a QB on Wanny's part or lack of adequate opportunity in the offseason for him to learn the system. And, because there was no real "scheme" in place, was that more to do with his lack of success, rather than his lack of talent ??

I wouldn't say the eagles had depth at WR when TO went down. They had Freddie freaking Mitchell. The NFC is just so weak that the eagles were able to get by anyway, not b/c of depth.
