Hey, guys. This is the first thread I've started and my second post. Let me get right into things. Let's take a look at things from a different perspective...

I have to admit, I am not a fan of Culpepper, I think he is (was) a bad team guy and I don't like the off the field issues either. I also preferred Brees heavily over him because Drew is 2 years younger, and a stand up guy, but I got to thinking a little further into this.

1.) Let's look at these so-called weapons Daunte had. Randy Moss as the go-to WR. Okay, no one here will ever claim Chambers is a Randy Moss, but he doesn't take plays off and isn't an injury problem like Moss, so he may end up being very productive.

2.) RB. This is a no-brainer. Daunte has never had a stud, pass catching RB to take any pressure off of him in the passing game. The best thing he's had to deal with was Michael Bennett, who is always injured. So he had ZERO help from the RB position. Worst case scenario is that we have Ronnie Brown. This is hands down the most help Daunte will have had from the running game. How much more productive can the guy be with a running game?? We'll find out. And let's not forget we may be have Ricky in there, although I'm not counting on it, but it is rest assured the guys will bring in a formidable backup.

3.) Tightend. This is the most glaring difference in my opinion. Jermaine Wiggins, how many of you guys here know who this guy is? There were a few other TEs there, but I can't name any of them. Randy McMichael is a decent QB away from being the 3rd best TE in the game behind Gates and Gonzalez. Who knows how good he can be with a good QB? I know last season he was on pace to have a pro-bowl season before Gus got confident in Chambers.

4.) Hometown theme. The guy is from Florida, loves Florida, and now has the world to prove wrong. He has the best supporting cast he's had EVER. He has a chip on his shoulder. To be traded away that easily for a 2nd round pick, I wouldn't bet against the guy to be ready to play when he does step on the field. He has a lot to prove.

In summary, I never thought highly of the guy, and I wanted Brees as badly as anyone here, but Daunte is our guy if the physical goes right. He has not been in such a good position to succeed, we have a lot more to offer the guy as far as weapons are concerned. I say that everyone that is whining, just sit back and relax. We'll see if it was worth it or not soon enough, but I promise you that the Phins will be a feared team once again, and it will have a lot to do with that chip on Daunte's shoulder.

Let's also remember that Willis McGahee a running back who relies on his knees alot more than Daunte will, had the same injury and has come back at 100%.

Thinking about it now, I would be alot more concerned about someone injuring their money maker (arm in brees case) to Culpepper injuring his knee while his cannon of an arm is still 100%. The only thing this changes is that Culpepper may not rush for 500+ yards a season, but I've never been a big fan of run happy QB's, let him pass for 3500+ yards and 30 TD's and I'll be more than happy. :D

Sorry to nit-pick but Wiggins is actually a pretty good TE.

Yeah, Thats a fabulous post if you like fiction.

First of all, Where have you ever heard Daunte is a bad 'team' guy? He's been with Minnesota 7 years, and I read the papers most days and have never heard that.

Chambers not an injury problem like Moss??? Hmmm, Moss played 16 games in a season all but 2 seasons with the Vikings(15 in the other). Yes Chambers is talented.

Robert Smith was the best RB, Daunte played with and in his prime was 3X the back Ronnie Brown is now.

Wiggins won 2 Super Bowls with New England, Very good TE.

You make good points about the rest of your article.

Drew Brees is a system QB, Daunte can play the game and always has been.

Wiggins

Ill take Randy over him anyday though....isn;t he a FB also?

Culpepper is a Phin.

It's no longer about his stats in Minnesota or the coaching or players he worked with while there.

He now plays for a team that places an emphasis on coaching, discipline and attention to detail.

As we saw in the last 6 games of last year, Saban gets through to his players. And, for all of the problems Daunte HAD... I see them as all very correctable under Saban.

It's no longer about who he was. It's all about who Saban can make him become.

On a final note, I'd rather have a QB with a bum leg, then one with a bum arm.

I know the extent of Brees' injury was of great debate and confusion on this site. But, it is being commonly referred to as a "torn labrum and partially torn rotator cuff". Vikes deal Culpepper.... (ESPN)

It really amazed me how so many Phin Fans were willing to look past this when so much has been made of Pennington's injuries.

I'm happy with 'Pepper. It's time to move on and continue the job of returning to glory.

BINGO.

I have to agree with some of the original post. This is the most balanced team that Daunte has ever played on going all the way back to his high school days. He was the best player by far on his UCF team and never had anything close to balance in Minny, especially after Robert Smith retired.

I do have to disagree with the statments that Daunte isn't a team guy. He is very much a team guy. And other than possibly getting a lap dance on a boat in a lake, there havn't been ANY off field issues. Do you think that no Dolphin player has gone out out on South Beach and had a lap dance? Get real people! I promise you that your beloved Zack Thomas has had more than a few lap dances.

And I agree with the earlier poster who said that Wiggins is a good player. I believe he came close to making the pro-bowl a few times and may not be as fast and athletic as McMichaels but is a very good blocker and has better hands than he's given credit for.

My only positive that I can draw from this Culpepper trade is that come about mid season, when the Fins are around 8-2 or so, I'll get to come on here and see all the guys who have been ripping Daunte apart to this point, making posts about how they knew Daunte was the answer all along.

Fools.

and I have to agree with the original post as well. our rb is better than anything minny ever had, better TE, and solid WR's. we shall see won't we..

The fact is Brees wasn't down with Miami like Culpepper was. Culpepper specifically told teams to lay off because he wanted to be a Fin. Brees was in it all for the money and he proved that. Culpepper is a great quarterback and always has been. He would've been league Mvp if it wasn't for Manning having that amazing season.

Everyone can diss , cry , piss, moan about us having Culpepper, but in the end he's the quarterback that's right for us.
