Let's talk about steals in the Mid to Lower rounds - 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th round

So much talk is about who will we draft #1, or 2a 2b, but I want to focus on the later rounds.. If you look at past drafts, alot of the drafts of years gone by have been given "A" grades based on what a team did "Later" in a draft (i.e. Steals)..

I want to ask, who do you think can have a Zach Thomas type impact (he was drafted in the 5th round). Or even a poor man's Zach Thomas type impact?

I want to keep talk in this thread limited to the 3rd round or further. Preferably 4th round or later.

I will start it off by saying I like wide receiver Marcus Monk in the 4th round. They are saying he is likely a 4th or 5th round pick.. He just ran a 4.41 forty and he is 6'6 222 lbs. He got injured last season and they had no QB, heck even Darren McFadden lined up at QB alot and they were a run run run team. So he didn't have a productive senior season last season.. But he did have a great campaign during his junior season- and I like the way he extends for the ball.. His size coupled with his willingness to extend (plus his speed and good hands) is a good combo imo.

Monk, 6-6, 217 pounds, led the Razorbacks with 50 receptions for 962 yards and a school single-season record 11 touchdowns during his junior season. His career stats include 122 receptions for 2, 007 yards and a school-record 24 touchdowns (not including his senior season as this was an article from last year).

Another guy I like is ILB Jonathan Goff if he makes it to round 4.. He is an excellent ILB for the Parcell's 3-4 defense.. He's a much MUCH better fit than Beau Bell who I have seen posted on this forum for instance.

So who do you guys really like as sleepers who can make an impact in the later rounds?

My favourite guys in the later rounds are

Frank Okam, DT
Jonathan Zenon, CB
Dennis Dixon, QB
Erik Ainge, QB
Jamie Silva, S

About Monk, I think he had an interesting combine, he's surprisingly fast, but dropped some balls in the drills.

Goff is not bad for run stopping, but he's slow and very poor in coverage. Imho Miami should wait for Maualuga or Laurinaitis next year, and fix a different position this year.

Funny thing about Okam, because until recently he was a sure fire late first or 2nd rounder. I like Silva though in the very late rounds (6,7).

In regards to Goff, I heard his coverage skills were fine. Surprised to hear he is poor in that regard,.

If Greco makes it to the 4th round, I'd take him there.. He was projected to go in the 5th a couple of months ago (when I read about him) but has climbed recently to 3-4 territory.

Condraft.com about Goff:

Strengths

Goff is an outstanding physical specimen. It's clear he's spent a good deal of time in the weight room just by looking at him, but his 28 bench reps at the Combine confirm that. He plays fast on the field, diagnosing and attacking plays quickly. He's rarely out of position and is a playmaker. He fills holes and is strong at the point of attack. Goff uses his hands effectively to shed blocks and is a good tackler. He's a leader on and off the field.

Weaknesses

Goff is not a great athlete and struggles changing direction. While he's effective at the point of attack, he needs a bit more sand in his pants as he's eliminated too easily by cut blocks. Goff doesn't look comfortable dropping into coverage, especially man coverage. He plays a bit stiff at times. As a blitzer, he doesn't possess any moves and generally won't get to the QB if he has to run anything other than a straight line.

Projection

Goff has the football IQ and the size/strength combo that will excite teams. They'll be turned off a bit by the fact that he'll need to be subbed for on passing downs. Look for him to go somewhere in the early stages of day two of the 2008 NFL Draft.

Antwaun Molden

I've now heard three different people, including Mike Mayock on NFL Network, mention Eastern Kentucky cornerback Antwaun Molden as a player whose draft stock is rising. Molden was the strongest cornerback at the Combine, with 23 repetitions of 225 pounds on the bench press. He also performed well in the agility tests at the Combine, and he ran track in college as well as playing football.

NFL teams are starting to think of Molden as an intriguing prospect, although also one who is no sure thing even to make the roster. At 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds, NFL teams like his size, and he had a very good senior season against I-AA competition. The adjustment from I-AA to the NFL is a big one, but some teams think he'll make the adjustment. Keep an eye out for Molden on Day 2 of the draft.

I have a long list of prospects that are in the lower echelon I'm currently drooling over. But if you're looking for the next Zach Thomas, we will not be drafting him (too small for Parcells), but it just might be Ben Moffitt the MLB from South Florida. This guy might surprise some people.

Here's some of the ones I really like, but most of them will not be available at the round which really makes me salivate:

Round 4:
TE Jermichael Finley
TE John Carlson (not gonna be there)
SOLB Bryan Johnston (I don't know the guy really but his numbers are eye popping)

Round 5 (we currently do not have a 5th round selection):
G Mike McGlynn

Round 6:
CB Orlando Scandrick
S Tom Zbikowski

Round 7:
LB Kroy Biermann (this dude could reallly surprise people, he reminds me a bit of Urlacher)

Okam is just experiencing the traditional Texas slide. Players that have great junior seasons for them and would be sure fire first round picks go back to school and they slide in the draft (see Nathan Vasher, Rod Wright, Justin Blaylock, and Tim Crowder among others)

I doubt that Tom Zbikowski will be there in the 6th round

Mike McGlynn won't be in the 5th round, either.

Silva of Boston College, Biermann of Montana, T. Wheatley of Colorado, Urrutia of Louisville, Avery of Houston.

Mike Gibson OG California

JUCO transfer from Solano Community College..Played tackle in college but he can also project to guard at the next level....Had a serious shoulder injury in 2006 but did not miss any action..A developing prospect who may lack eye-popping physical tools but has starting potential, particularly inside..Underrated and could surprise.

Silva from Boston College has all the heart and skill in the world but the kid is not an athlete by any means.
