Why? Does Gase not understand math? Does he have nobody in his vicinity that understands math?

What's the difference between a turnover on downs there and a FG? Not all that big. Still need two TDs. But a TD on the other hand makes this a football game.

Put aside for a second that this dog **** defense would **** the bed anyway. That's beside the point. You do what puts you in the best mathematical position to win the game and Gase blew it big time. I'd love to see the probability difference in winning the game between:

A. Turnover on downs
B. FG
C. TD

Bet there's almost no difference between A and B to speak of and a massive one between A/B and C.

****. This isn't hard. It's basic probability.

This is very simple, Gase is a bad coach. He’s bad in ever single aspect. Play calling, coach selecting, player management, personnel decisions, team prep and game plan.... that call was the least shocking thing he’s ever done as it fits his complete and utter failure to the T.

It was a head scratcher, for sure. Especially given the context of the game at that point.

It came on the heels of Gase going for a surprise onside kick when it's a one score game. I wasn't livid when he made that call. Our defense folds anyways. I figured the Texans had just as much of a chance marching down the field from the 25 as they did from the 50.

To me, that surprise onside kick was gutsy and signaled that Gase doesn't trust the defense (nor should he).

But then on 4th & 3 why not go for it? If you fail to convert, it's a two score game. If you do convert and proceed to march into the endzone, you're right back in things. Plus, it's already become clear you can't trust the defense to make a stop -- might as well roll the dice on the offense.

It's totally perplexing and reads -- at least to me -- like he's not operating with a consistent, thought-out strategy. Then again, what do I know.

Gase gonna challenge a catch down 3 scores with 4 minutes left but wouldn't go for it when the situation was obvious and the game was actually in reach.

Excuse me while I puke.

I think he knew the defense would give up points like they do every drive. So he was hoping for a miracle and Houston would make it 15 again still 2 scores not 18 if they done convert

I totally agree. Very simple. He needs to go.

You need your defense to hold whether you kick or go for it. As a matter of fact, if you don't trust your defense (and he shouldn't) then that weighs even more heavily in the favor of going for it.

He made up for it on the next series by punting 19 points down and a little over 6 minutes left.

Too much faith in his defense there.

But the way Brock was playing I kinda get it

Gase looks like Sean Payton in the SB if he pulls off that onside kick. He knew how bad the D was tonight

It was a tactical move. We do the onside kick in the 3rd quarter with 7 or 8 points down and kick FG with 2 TDs down. We were trying to confuse Houston.

Because we damn well knew they were going to score again. Not as complicated as everyone is making it.
