LEVI TO SLIDE?
One of the rumors making the rounds with the draft a day away is that Penn State offensive tackle Levi Brown could plunge.
There's a school of thought that, if he gets past the Texans at No. 10 (and there is a strong belief in some circles that the Texans don't want him), Brown could slide deep into the round.
One possible landing spot is No. 20, to the Giants. But as to a recent report in one of the New York papers suggesting that the Giants might be eyeballing Brown because they have called to confirm his draft-day contact information, every team does this with every player in the pool. So that fact in and of itself means nothing.

If Brady Quinn was the Matt Lienart of this Draft we would all be so happy.

Can anyone tell me how Levi Brown would have compared to Vernon Carey if they were both in the same draft? As Vernon appears to be very solid but was supposed to be a LT and doesn't appear to have LT potential, what makes Brown a better LT prospect than Carey was?

BS

Just cause the Giants are interested all the sudden he's gonna slide??

I don't buy it.

Its amazing to me, all you've been hearing lately is how Levi is rising, how some think Levi might be a better Pro than Thomas....yada yada yada....etc etc etc.......now all of the sudden he's gonna slide way down?

You've got to love the draft.

Its the most hyped event of the year.

I have said for a while that Levi is the Winston Justice of this draft.

There was a big differance netween the two in college. For one Justice played right tackle and was far from the finished product that Levi is. Justice although very athletic was much more raw than Levi. I must say I love how the Eagles have drafted for the oline in recent years. Justice is thier LT of future , they have Max Jean Giles, Shawn Andrews, Todd Herremans and a nice small school center named Jamaal Jackson from Delaware state. All these guys will be starters for them. During that time we basically have drafted one sure thing Carey and I wanted Andrews but we got rocked.

It all depends on who passes on a player , although I very much doubt Levi slides far and may be gone before we pick.

Last night with 6-7 so-called experts playing the mock draft game on ESPN, Brown never got past the Dolphins on any of their picks and some said he may get taken by the Falcons at 8. It doesn't appear he has fallen as of last night. Interesting how the "in-house expert" homely Mel Kiper agreed that Levi Brown should be the Dolphin's pick even though the day before, he said we should draft Amobi Okoye. There's a reason Kiper's never wrong, he changes his picks every day .

Because number one Carey only started one game at LT in college. Carey was mainly a left guard and right tackle. Carey although he did have his moments was very inconsistent in college and never lived up to his high school hype.
Carey was not a starter until his junior year. Levi would have went over Carey in this draft, in fact Carey was rated by many as a second round pick, the year we took him. carey is similar to Brown in strength and speed but never showed the feet that Levi has shown in college. Very few teams considered Carey a left tackle prospect, most looked at him as a possible right tackle or guard. We basically lost our composure, when Philidelphia stole our player Shawn Andrews who also like Carey was considered more of a RT prospect, so we did what we have done many times in recent drafts lost our mind and gave up another pick just to take a player that was going to be there anyway at our pick. Minnesota even admitted that they bluffed us on the trade. We should have kept our composure because Minnesota was going to take that DE no matter what and no team was that in love with carey that they were going to move up for him. There was considered a huge dropoff from Andrews to him. There was basically one top level LT prospect in this draft Robert Gallery. In retrospect Carey is turning into a good right tackle but I still would have prefererred trading down and taking Smiley and Dockett which was what I wanted to do originally when Andrews went off the board. If we stayed put I wanted Wilfork although would have been happy with Udezee at the time to make trading Ogunleye easier.

Speaking of Poole, does anyone think the Phins will re-sign him when he is 100% healthy? Will he ever be 100% healthy (stress fractures in knee)? Or did he sign with some other team, as I think I may have heard late last year on this site? I really liked the way he played in his first year and he looked like he was going to be a star.

dlockz:

Thanks for the reply and information. I agree we got fleeced by the Vikings on the 4th round pick. However, I didn't remember that Carey was really a reach at where we took him. Obviously, if Brown is drafted, he better be able to play LT as we don't need another RT.

He was going to be a star. I have heard many things on this, I think no matter what happens he will not be a Phin. This guy would have been an allpro at CB but injuries probably have robbed him.

What happens is the teams probably never rated near as high as the media has hyped him to be. So now draft time the media puts him right back were he belongs as a lower 1st round prospect. The only reason he was projected to go that high was cause LT is a premium position and there is a lack of top end talent. So he still may go much higher then his talent level should. Its like the year A. Smith went #1, in a typical draft year would he go #1 no cause there are usually better QB prospects but since QB is the premium position and there was a lack a top QB prospects he gets lucky and goes very high. Same as Brown this year, put him in next years draft he may not even go 1st round.
