Lex Hilliard Highlights

Fullback? I think not. He has good vision, tough runner, and hit the home run (wonder if those homeruns were before the achilles injury?).

Those clips are in chronological order by year. Starting with '04 then '05 and then post injury 07

look at that line play!

holy smokes I could have run for 4 yards......then been driven to the hospital.

but seriously, he seems to read it well but he could have walked a couple of the touchdowns in with that line play.

homeboy is fast dude. hopefully he can help out this year, but in a perfect world we get ronnie back ricky back and parmalee is right there too i dunno man i just cant see him getting that many touches this year. Then again im talking bout a perfect world and its been years since a perfect second even came near the miami area for us fin fans.

Bingo on that one. The thing that has always made me uncomfortable watching Lex Hilliard tapes is that the teams he played seemed ridiculously overmatched by Montana's blocking units, and that the defenders themselved often got caught playing the equivalent of junior varsity high school technique, especially in tackling.

I see a decent all-around back in Hilliard with good enough power and speed, ok instincts, but not great balance and I don't know that I see NFL quickness. He'll probably have to bulk up and be like a Heath Evans, IMO.

I see Jalen Parmele being on a completely different level, personally.

Compare the Lex Hilliard highlight to the Jayson Foster highlight. Hilliard's highlight looks like an OL highlight, or maybe an opposition lowlight film. Foster's highlight actually looks like a highlight to me. It would seem to me that the guys playing against Foster actually played ok, but HE made them look silly. Look what he did to Appalachian State! This is the team that bottled up Michigan.

Can you say special teams? He has the talent no doubt but there is too much RB depth ahead of him. I think he could be a ST stud and insurance for our RB depth in case we have injuries like last season.

ok CK easy on the Michigan talk! ;)

but I agree these video's were an unbeliveable "How Too" video for Offensive line play.

One thing I always look at in tapes like these is how well a back understands north and south running. He did show that he has the heart to get down field quickly.

But my question is, was that the design of the play or did he get to read it.

I noticed one zone block that he did recognize the spot and walked into the endzone. I need to see more of him maybe.

IMO it was an unbelievable line that made for easy yards and scores. Hopefully our line looks similar this year.

Whenever you see a back hit th races right off the handoff like that, you know there's some damn good blocking going on. It wasn't just the OL though. Those WRs were ridiculous blockers and the fullbacks, tight ends all did magnificent jobs too.

careful CK, you're dangerously close to perfectly explaining what a running game should look like.......shoot, every play!

I actually put together these clips and I get what you guys are saying. Unfortunately I don't have access to the full game tape of any of his games and so I only took clips from the highlight tape of each game, which only shows the TDs and a couple plays from the game. Therefore a lot of the plays are just in the redzone with Lex barreling through the holes that the line opens up. I wish I could pull from the down to down plays in the middle of the field that might give you a better sense of Lex's ability.

My favorite play ever of his, which there is no tape of on the internet, was a 66 yard reception of his against Cal Poly in the playoffs in 2005. He caught a shovel pass at pretty much the line of scrimmage and then ran 66 yards eluding 4 or 5 defenders without being touched for a TD

I honestly don't know much about him. So my opinions are based on the video's I've seen like these ones.

One thing to keep in mind is it does take an athlete to make any play at any level.

I am always watching line play in any highlights because I so strongly believe that that is where every play starts.......come to think about it I miss 90% of the actually game watching the stupid meat heads bash around in the trenches.
