Based on what I observed last year, Nick will not hesitate to upgrade the roster. I expect that to happen this year with two of the same positions affected last year, dbs and tight ends.
I believe an additional corner and tight end will likely be picked up. I am concerned with the lack of a rush backer. I would not be shocked if Hodge and Newman are at risk in making the roster, and there is an addition of a pass rushing linebacker.
If any of you are watching the rosters of other teams can you think of situations where a team is loaded at de, linebacker (pass rusher), db, or te?

And, if you trade Manny Wright, do you pursue a draft pick or do a player for player trade? My inclination is to trade for a player.

I just don't see us trading Manny Wright. But if we did, it would have to be player for player or a conditional pick(and the player wouldn't be anything special).

At this point, Manny Wright will probably be held onto to until the end of training camp and traded just before Aug 29 cutdowns. The longer we hold him, the better the chance that either a) he has an epiphany and gets with the program b) the less value he has to other teams, having missed their entire training camps. With Wilkinson here (ands at 33 years old) we can't afford to keep Zgonina anymore, and must start a youth movement at DT, which probably means keeping both Evans and Vickerson while trading Zgonina. I think Nick will assess all trades in terms of greatest value. If he feels that the player being offered is of less value than the quality of player he could get with the draft pick a trade would bring, he'd take the draft pick. The inverse is true if the draft pick offered is of less value than the curent player. It will obviously matter whether the player offered is at a position of need for the Phins, giving them a chance to stick with the team. In one sense, draft picks always have a slight premiuim value, as the Dolphins can choose any player at any position with a pick, whereas a player you receive in a trade, if not good enough to make the roster nor p.s. at his position will be dropped and have no value. It's all value based.

Regarding linebacker, it's too soon to say who might go, but Newman has not looked good so far. He was losyt in pass coverage and had great difficulty beating a third string LT on a blitz, despite being acquired by us specifically because he could rush the passer (8 sacks once in Buffalo).

For Wright

maybe a seventh round pick or a similar draft failure

If I were trying to trade Wright I'd take a bucket of fried chicken and a slap in the face to make my eyes water. That's a fair trade.
