Stefan Wisniewski has been on the market for a while now and he turned down an 8mil/year offer from the Raiders. As far as that goes I haven't heard much about him in FA.

Did he turn down that 8mil contract because he wanted out of oakland that bad?

or is he really expecting that kind of contract, hence little interest on the market?

Begs the question of if he is even worth that money to play guard, a position he hasn't played since his rookie year.

He's the only decent guard left on the market, and given Miami's current situation, I wouldn't be surprised if they would get up to 5-6 mil a year.

I haven't seen a lot of him. Is he a good scheme fit for us? He appears to be looking for big bucks and Oakland still has massive cap space available but have been reticent to lock him up (not a good sign). Interesting that Wisniewski is second generation Oakland Raider, but it looks like he's out the door.

He probably feels he can match the $8M/yr somewhere else outside of Oakland, or take a bit less just to leave that black hole (pun intended). I wouldnt give him that much money, I dont know much about him, and I'd rather throw that money at a starter at any other position and draft a young G.

If he turned down $8mil/yr from the Raiders why would he take $5-$6 mil per year from us? Is the a source on the Raiders offering him that much $? Under no circumstances should we be paying a guard that kind of money.

Well $5-6 million in Florida would probably be a raise to him with those California taxes.

From what others have said the players all pay taxes where they play their games, including on the road, so this mitigates the state tax differences to a degree. We hear how state taxes will play a part in free agency in all sports, yet the Cali and NY teams always get their share for free agents. It apparently is a very nominal difference.

I assume they deemed he is out of their price range. The last I read he visited Seattle but no deal so he is probably asking for too much for us.

10.55% state tax in California. As a player for the Raiders you play 9 regular season games a year in California, minimum. $8 mil a year that's $500K per game check. So that's $474,750 in taxes...almost an entire game check. Not to mention the 8.25% sales tax on anything you buy in California. That may seem nominal to some but that's a heck of a lot of money to me.

The amount of $ is not nominal, but the difference in playing for a Cali team and a Florida team is not that $475k in taxes. It's that $475k in taxes less the amount the Fins player would pay for the road games they play in states with high state taxes. 3-4 games, so the net difference is about a third lower. The effect it seems to have on a free agents decision on where to play sure seems to be nominal, and that's what I am saying. Every year California and New York teams do just fine in free agency. Is it a factor? Of course, but not a huge one as is demonstrated by the market. What has a greater effect keeping a FA from signing with Oakland is the franchise itself.

It probably isn't an issue because a lot of these guys aren't too bright with their money. Plus, it doesn't matter to the agent living in Florida where his client signs, as long as it is for the most money possible...

At first I laughed, but honestly I'm sure that has a lot of truth in it. I imagine it depends on the agent, but I'm sure it's been glossed over a time or two.

Whats your scheme?

He is a below AVG C (people in Oakland say he gets past on his name).

As a OG he could be an AVG (but from what I understand with him is he is best fit for a zone blocking team).
