I bought the 2008 Lindy's Pro Football Preview book last Friday at the Vegas Airport before my flight home. Which was cool because Lindy's wasn't supposed to be released until tomorrow.

Anyways, here are some of the main things they say about the Dolphins:

They predict the AFC East to finish like this:

1. New England Patriots
2. Buffalo Bills
3. Miami Dolphins
4. New York Jets

Draft Talk:

They gave the Dolphins a grade of "A" for their draft, which is the highest mark they gave out. Only the Dolphins and Chiefs received an "A" grade.

They seem to like every pick we made and quite a few times mention that each player we got good value from. They think Merling will fit into the Defense right away. They also mention that Parmele and Hilliard may get more carries then you think with the uncertain status of Ricky's and Ronnie's health.

Player Rankings:

In this section, they rate Vernon Carey as the 2nd best Right Tackle in the league. Jason Taylor as the 3rd best Strong Side Linebacker. Joey Porter is listed as the 9th best Strong Side Linebacker. Jason Ferguson as the 9th best Nose Tackle. Yeremiah Bell is tied as the 10th best Strong Safety. Jay Feely as the 4th best Kicker. They mention that Jake Long was the best offensive tackle pickup in the AFC(regardless of draft or FA).

Position/Coaching Ratings:

This area they talk about each position and give them a rating between 1 and 10. This is what Miami got:

Coaching: 6.5
Quarterbacks: 6
Running Backs: 7.5
Receivers: 6
Offensive Lineman: 8
Defensive Lineman: 6.5
Linebackers: 7
Secondary: 7
Special Teams: 7
Intangibles: Plus 2

Notes of Interest:

They say that if Jason Taylor returns and is not traded, that he will return to the Pro Bowl and have more then the 11 sacks he had last season.

They predict that if Ronnie and Ricky return healthy that they will combine for more then the 1,650 they had together in 2005.

They said don't be surprised if Bess or Lymon make the final 53.

They really like the young offensive line and say that Sparano and Maser will be able to mold these guys into a first-class unit. They said keep your eye on Dan Gore and Mike Byrne to have success and possibly make the roster.

They mention that Jake Long was our key addition and that Zach Thomas was our key loss.

They predict Bell and Crocker to be the starting Safeties. Lehan and Will Allen as the starting cornerbacks.

They say our run defense is improved with the additions of Ferguson, Torbor and Ayodele.

Not Dolphins related Info:

They predict the Colts to defeat the Cowboys in the Super Bowl.

If Lehan is a starting CB we're in trouble. That dude is just soooooo bad.
I saw a different player then you did last season, and I fully expect Lehan to start at CB. I agree with their projected starting secondary except for Crocker. I expect Jason Allen to start there.

Yeah I bought the issue last night. Liked the part about Jason Taylor and Joey Porter "Putting the fear of God into tightends and running backs who oppose them" haha great stuff

if this was last years offseason i'd say yeah, because lehan was terrible in 2006. but he was a bright spot on this team last year. because of the 1-15 record its easy to forget.

I would like to know who the other two LB'ers they have in front of JT. Considering JT is a DE usually I think that maybe to high until he gets a feel for the position. I mean there are some good outside backers out there like James Harrison,Mike Vrabel,Shawn Phillips,Demarcus Ware,Terrell Suggs, AJ Hawk and Lance Briggs are a few. I would love to see how they have these guys rated. If JT is number 3 and Porter number 9 Thats not bad at all. Thanks for the INFO Nublar7 good stuff......

Strong Side/Sam Linebackers:

1. Shawn Merriman - Chargers
2. Michael Boley - Falcons
3. Jason Taylor - Dolphins
4. Terrell Suggs - Ravens
5. Greg Ellis - Cowboys
6. Derrick Johnson - Chiefs
7. Mike Vrabel - Patriots
8. David Thornton - Titans
9. Joey Porter - Dolphins
10. LaMarr Woodley - Steelers

Jason Allen was our leader in INT's with 3 and 3rd in total tackles with 62. I think he should start at a S position. CC was team leader in tackles followed by Porter. Lehan was 5th in tackles w/ a sack and an INT. AND Zach played in 5 games and had 52 total tackles, that's over 10 per game avg. Zach is so awesome and so missed.

The best thing about those magazines is to read them at the end of the season to see how wrong they were, and then you say damn i spent $7.99 for that info, and if you are like me,you purchased each and every one of those magazines. LOL!!!

Why do they have Joey and JT as Strong Side LBers? I thought they would play on opposite sides? I see Porter lined up outside the right Tackle and JT lined up outside of the left Tackle

I fully agree. If lehan continues to make progress, i see him as a very good corner in this league... he was a good player for us i believe

and crocker won't be starter, if he will be i'll be pissed and sad for j.allen lol

agree with you totally. jason allen should start. we gotta find out if he is gonna improve on last year. he really improved. lets see if he continues.

it would be just nice to be in games and not have the season over before halloween

I think it's clear we have talent, we have coaching, we need some luck for a change. Miami was better then a 1-15 team in 07, we just had to many things go wrong at the worst possible time. I think Miami will be much better this year.
