We seem to have a lot of depth at Outside linebacker with Porter, Taylor, Roth (when he gets well), Wake, Charlie Anderson, Erik Walden and even Quentin Moses appears to have improved and is making some good plays. However, Inside linebacker looks thin with just Torbor and Folsom backing up Channing Crowder and Akin Ayodele. We know that Crowder has chronic knee problems and Folsom looks destined for the Practice Squad.
Is it possible to convert an outside linebacker like say Walden or Moses into an inside linebacker for extra depth at the MIKE position?
I come from another country and didn't grow up playing the game - but I've become a big Dolphin fan.

moses might not be with the team, and he cannot play mlb, as for walden maybe, but the one best suited is akin

if anyone could do it, i think it's Charlie Anderson. he was a 4-3 SLB before coming here. the duties of a 4-3 SLB and a 3-4 ILB are not that much different. just look at Akin Ayodele. he's decent at ILB now.

Moses is having a great camp, and he still has ALOT of potential. He can still make this team at OLB, but he has to keep up the solid camp and have some solid preseason games.

I agree with the other person, Charlie Anderson seems best for moving over to the weakside ILB spot.

I think we end up trading one of our OLBs if we have a surplus of them. if Roth comes back we will have him, Wake, Taylor, Porter, Anderson, Moses and Walden who have all been making plays in camp. We certainly aren't going to keep 7 OLBs.

William Kershaw is an ILB on our team who I think has potential already. As far as having so many OLB's, I agree and think we attempt to trade 1 of them. Probably Moses even though he is having a great camp. I think we could get a 6th rounder for him.

I honestly believe that this idea of depth on our team especially at OLB is a mirage... Look at the Roth situation... JT was brought in with Wake for depth as the pass rushing/complement OLB... Roth goes down or disappears and JT in all likelihood will have to be the starter... This was not the plan and luckily so far JT has stepped up but the season is long... Can he be the every down guy?

Wake is going to have to be the 'go to' guy as far as depth and right now we don't know enough about him to have any real comfort level... We do not have real depth at LB and I would be very concerned if we suffer any kind of major injury at any one of the spots inside or out... The dropoff in the talent level between the starters and ALL the guys you mentioned is SIGNIFICANT IMO... Keep your fingers and toes crossed.

My money says that we load up on a platoon of LB's in the next draft.

The TC reports have been pathetic regarding the linemen and MLB's. It is hard to know who is doing well at all in those areas...we haven't even heard much about Crowder, Langford, Ferguson etc. I hope it is just because they are playing solid football...but with some of these new guys, I would like to get some info on how they are doing.

I can see Roth moving inside on some plays this year and doing well.

I see two LBs picked in the first few rounds next year.

But are they even playing full contact in practice yet?

My understanding is that they are doing full contact in the line, but just not tackling to the ground. For linemen, that would mean that they got their hands on the back enough to have it blown dead.

In the scrimmage for example, I would like to know on the running plays what players they went over...and who on defense made the stop. It is almost like the reporters are concentrating strictly on the passing game and are reporting nothing relative to the run game.

When I read that Tony does not believe in full contact I must admit it was the first time I COMPLETELY disagreed with the man... I do not know how you can possibly get a read on players (especially LB's) when the contact is minimized... There is a world of difference in most cases between being in position to make a play and actually making it!

I understand the philosophy behind avoiding injury but the fact is, this is a violent sport and I have never in my life heard a coach that did not stress the fundamentals of the game as being the heart and soul of it. Tony included... Couple that with the fact that last year there were times when our tackling was AWFUL.

I understand this philosophy during the season and maybe even in the latter stages of Preseason but in the first week of camp??????

I think if you want your Dolphins to play like great white sharks it begins with a little blood in the water... :chuckle: JMO.

I've been wondering myself how they are going to make a reasonable assessment of tackling ability and break-away capabilities when they aren't actually tackling. Seems weird to me too. I guess they look at it that they are expected to have those abilities, and right now they are looking more at the mental aspects etc....just a guess...

Fish Head, regarding depth at OLB, Charlie Anderson is our go to backup with Roth out.
When Roth is Healthy it will be him or JT as the top backup With Anderson or Wake right behind them. Thats good depth, No mirage there.

OLB's
Porter
Roth
JT
Anderson
Wake
Moses
George
Walden

A Mirage?

I personally think we're thin at LB. We might be ok for this year, but take into account the ages of JP, JT, and even Akin. And, also take into acct of Channing's knees and the fact that Roth is not a complete OLB (i.e. good pass rusher and run stopper). I believe we HAVE to draft at least 2 LBs within our first 3 picks next year.
