I guess I don't see the big problem with him leaving. We had a great running game that wasn't utilized very well. A few games come to mind (Atlanta) where we threw the ball at the end to win it and everyone was pissed off we didnt' run. I also recall Linehan calling a few plays lobbing the ball up to Chambers with the sun in his face to win the game. After the first play crapped out, he called the exact same play again....genius.
I would have preferred he stay to keep some continuity, but he'd just be gone next year regardless and have our team even further entrenched into his style and offense.
Gus is not the long term answer to Miami's problems and Linehan was never going to be here more then 2 years regardless. This was a transition year for players and coaches. We have his system in place, we have his playbook, if we want we can still utilize the fundamentals of the offense and incorporate it into a new offense if need be.
Plus, there's a chance we JUST might actually use McMichael again....
Pittsburgh is the offense I'd like to see in Miami. Solid WR's, VERY good TE's that are actually used in the offense, nice runnning game with two backs and a solid QB that manages the game well. We're just not that far off...
