Well, I know you guys hate Linehan by now, but I prefer him than Norv Turner's offense who had no audibles whatsoever.
The Spread Offense that Linehan uses is the simplest of schemes, and yet is the most counter intuitive. Veteran players(Booker,Chambers) have the most difficulty learning it because they essentially are genetically programmed to stack...
Here are some info about the Spread offense Linehan is trying to use with Gussy
The Spread Offense has the following objectives:
  1. Open up the field and, hence, the cutting/passing lanes.
  2. Reduce poachability.
  3. Give the receivers more room to cut.
  4. Set up subsequent throws from an endzone-facing position.
  5. Offer greater opportunity to take advantage of mismatches.
  6. Defuse the standard defensive alignments, and make the defense have to think instead of just react.
  7. Offer a framework for several offensive plays.
  8. Involve the Middles and Longs to a greater extent.
  9. Position fewer players in the Red Zone, thus increasing the chances of scoring.

dude, you can not compare the two from just a miami dolphins point of view.

Norv didn't get to bring in 'his guy' at QB. And Norv was limited by wanny as to which plays to call.

Linehan brought in his guy who already knew the system, and Saban has let him coach.

Also, Linehan has only OC 8 games here thus far, so its not fair to him either.

we can't judge him till we put a qb in that can throw ............

Sure we can, and do every week :rofl3:

Just got to remember that the fact that we can judge doesn't mean we're right in our opinions.

you are true ..... but when a qb is over throwing the ball no completeing 50% of his passes u can't blame it on the coach

We can, he needs to adjust his playcalling without a Randy Moss to catch Gus' errant overthrows.

I think there is plenty of blame to go around in this debate:

1) Gus (I think I can stop right there)
2) Linehan: he needs to keep attempting to pass to allow the running to work, but if his boy can't get it done, he is only hurting himself.
3) Saban: Looks like he is giving Linehan plenty of leeway in his playcalling, maybe too much?
4) receivers: not a single consistant player except for the mini-man that went undrafted from TX tech, and he doesn't get his number called enought to make him an effective weapon (points back to Linehan as well).

I think the blame goes to the old regime for leaving us with a roster needing upgrades in talent all over the place on offense. Saban fixed some of it but that doesnt mean there isnt way more work to be done. Qb's have stunk (but most knew Gus was just a fill in to bring stability to the position), Wr's have dropped a ton of balls (CC, Booker, = Guilty as charged), OL started awful (have come on of late). We need more help on both sides of the ball. Linehan will be fine once he gets better players for his system

Good points. Saban inherited a botched team. We are 9 weeks into the road map to correct 5+ years of deconstruction to our team. I am pleasently suprised we have been as competitive as we have in almost all the games so far.

Exactly. All I expected this year was 7-9/8-8. I felt that would be a victory for the franchise and morale. We'll hope to improve 3-4 w's every year and we'll get there soon. Like Coach says "Make haste slowly"

i was a big fan of turner. i thought the plays were mixed well.

the problem was that feidler didnt have the arm to throw the necessary deep outs that made the cowboys so sucessful.

i also miss the HB screens from the '00-'01 era...chan gailey i think

Im pretty sure Chambers wishes he was back here. He had his best year under Chan.

I miss Kieth Byars. He did it all. Running, catching , throwing...

I wonder in he could play LT?
