I was wondering if anybody has seen him play and how has he done so far. He could be key to the D-line rotation him Merling, Starks, Langford could be a killer rotation at DE for years to come.

Does it look like he has the skill set to be a 3-4 DE? I know he only has 1 tackle but numbers dont tell the story in a 3-4 defense.

He has done slightly less than Paul Solai and has not played much. Way too early to tell but he seems to be playing over Wright so he must be impressing someone.

He played in the Baltimore game with Solai inactive and Fergi injured. I didn't notice him but clearly Baltimore openned up the running game one Ferguson left the game.

Sparano's comments after the game didn't not suggest he was effective. When asked specifically about Lionel after that game, Sparano made comments like : He's doing some things right. Getting into the right postion, starting to get a feel for things.

Not exactly strong prasie, but what do you expect. He's a develpmental player with lots of upside but still needing time to mature.

I equate Lionel to Fred Evans a few years back. Lionel is switching from the 4-3 to the 3-4, but given some time to develop, he may be a rotational player in the future say if Merling is converted to OLB or Vonnie Holliday's contract runs out, etc. Too early to tell, but the fact he made the 53 man and got time over Rod Wright, who has produced somewhat when he's gotten chances, is saying something.
